I think Rasheed did a great job in helping Drummond develop this past season, and Dre seems to love him as well

I hope he keeps him

Ahmad Ajami, Bob Beyer, Steve Clifford, Patrick Ewing, and Brendan Malone made up SVG's last staff in Orlando. Clifford is HC in Charlotte and had Ewing with him as associate HC. Brendan Malone was still coaching up until October of last season on his son's staff in Sacto, but he's 72yo.

I'd rather have a traditional big man coaching Dre in all honesty - though whoever SVG fills out his staff with is good enough for me and I'll feel a lot better about Sheed if he's kept on by SVG than as a Mo Cheeks hire.

Tough to say. I remember Patrick Ewing was a long time assistant under SVG in Orlando. He could lean towards bringing Ewing in. It wouldn't be good for Sheed, but it would definitely be good for our post players.

Ewing is Associate HC in Charlotte, which I believe means he can only leave to HC elsewhere.

Hopefully Drummond puts out a good-word for Sheed. I think Sheed did a great job last season.

What is the difference between Sheed and a "traditional big man coach"?

Thinking more about this though, with Stan Van Gundy wearing the Director of BBall Operations hat as well, he might look for a top assistant that he'll then bestow a lot more responsibilities on, to be able to basically HC the team when SVG needs to focus on DBBO matters of the moment/day. So Ewing could see the Detroit job as the best non-HC job available.

Good point, Ewing being an associate HC under SVG could entail more responsibility than anywhere else.

I love Sheed, but this organization, and its fans have a serious inability to set aside attachments from former players. That's how Joe D was here for so long, that's how Laimbeer got so much love here, even Isaiah Thomas was getting some love for a potential return. Let the players go and let's retain that love for their playing days without tarnishing our memories of them. It'll take years before I think of Joe D again without first thinking of the mess he created as GM.

I don't find a "Do what I was unwilling to do myself" coaching or leadership style all that effective.

Sheed had an excellent post game, even if he spent a lot of time floating outside to shoot jumpers. When Dre posted guys up this year he looked pretty good for a guy who basically just started learning how to post up. I thought that Sheed was doing a good job.

SVG is a serious guy, and Sheed, as much as I love him, can be a bit of a clown. Seriously doubt he's back, unless Drummond has more pull already than I think he does.

I hoping SVG respects Sheeds game after he and Ben used to give Dwight the business and keeps him on as an assistant. from all reports he did a good job with our guys last season, so i hope he stays.

I would like to keep Sheed working with Drummond.

Sheed's gotta stay.

god i miss those days: sheed, ben, and dyess. we OWNED the magic and howard for years.
