-Whole process from initial contact to today took two weeks
-Hasn't talked personally to Greg Monroe yet. Talked to his agent David Falk over the phone for about 45 minutes.
-Again mentions that his dual role important for continuity because GM vs Coach happens too often in league where blame pointed around too easily. We know SVG hated Dumars scapegoating of coaches time after time. (Along with what happened to Stan in Miami and Orlando and the Dumars' coaching carousel here (and Gores half season firing of Cheeks) one has to believe there is no way Van Gundy would have taken on a coaching job anywhere without this level of commitment and control.)
-Has GM targets in mind, process has already started. Will not say who he's in contact with - no timetable on it. Coaching aspect of his job gears up more in August, so he has time now to focus on putting together his front office.
-Ownership will be involved in GM hire - hiring will be mutual decision. Will definitely be before July 1st, but not going to be rushed. (Sounds like SVG will make draft pick then).
-Has set beliefs of what works defensively and will play that way, but not a set systems guy offensively - certain core principles - fundamentally sound, unselfish etc, but will build offense to fit what he's got.
-Current Salary Cap and Analytics guy Ken Cantenella(sp) sounds like he's being kept on. Stan will further hire two more guys to work him in this area.
-Plans to watch most film as a staff/team/org than any other team in the league. Committed to Advanced Scouting Staff watching every minute of every NBA game played

I haven't read anything about John Loyer's fate. I know he has one more year on contract, but I hope SVG just cuts him loose. If he wants a great staff, Loyer should not be on it.

Not trying to be smart here, but what difference would that really make? He'd be like the 4th coach down the bench.

This was a great interview. To me, the biggest takeaway was that he's not married to the Orlando-style 4-1 offense and that he believes in building a system around the talent rather than vice versa. While he may slowly collect pieces that allow him to mimic his use of Dwight Howard, his flexibility is a huge plus.
