I have a Josh Smith trade for you

Post#1 » by aaron_gray » Fri May 16, 2014 6:25 am

Hi. I am a Lakers fan.

Josh Smith, your pick this year 8

Nash, Jodie Meeks, Marshon Brooks.

We will live in the brick house for the next 3 years (or waive him, there are benefits to having deep pockets). You get Jodie for floor spacing and to fill your hole at SG. Jodie is 26 and can help mentor Caldwell-Pope on his shooting/cutting. Brooks will act as a great sweetner in trades, in case you want to swap an expiring in Nash for something.

Just in case you were wondering, we would trade this your pick along with our pick 6 for a top 3 pick in hopes of securing Embiid. Or we could throw the max at Greg Monroe in free agency.

What do you say?

Why would the Pistons give up the 8th pick and Smith for a couple bench players and a player about to retire?

Let us add in Drummond and Monroe and you got a deal lol

I want Smith gone but not at the expense of the 8th overall pick. Honestly I'm not even scared of Smiths stupidity on the court right now with SVG around. If he pulls the kind of stupid crap he did last season on the court then he will find himself riding the pine all year.

Detroit is not that desperate to get rid of Smith. Yeah we'd be willing to take another team's scrubs to trade him, but we're not throwing in a valuable asset like the #8 pick in a great draft (especially considering we won't have a first round pick in 2015).

And especially after hiring Van Gundy, Smoove may not even be a lost cause. Dream scenario: SVG gets Smith to buy into his system, he stays in the paint and doesn't wander off to the 3 pt line, and by the 2015 trade deadline, Smith will have become a great rotation big along with Monroe and Dre that Pistons fans might even be on the fence about trading him.

I say- go back to the Lakers board. This is a terrible, terrible, turrible idea. Detroit isn't trading their pick. Technically, they couldn't even if they want to due to the Stipien rule.

Smith isn't a fit, but SVG sounds like he's going to bring him off the bench if he can't trade him anyways. We don't need to do a "bail out" trade with good assets just to move Smith.

Thanks for stopping by, but I'm not a fan of a guy who can't at least bring a six pack to the party.

Atlanta was a Magic nemesis for years. I think Stan knows Josh's game as good as anyone. If he has plans for Josh, then he will know how to best use him.

Take a deep breath, guys. This is what it feels like when you propose ridiculous deals like Monroe for Ryan Anderson and Jrue Holiday.

Also, OP, Nash has 2 years and $20m left, and he can't play a lick anymore. That's a worse contract than Smith's.

Yup, you're right. I misread bball reference.com. I'm fine with dumping Smith and I feel like I'm pretty harsh about his trade value, but there's no way this move makes any sense now. There aren't many assets more valuable than a top-10 first, plus they don't really need the cap room and don't need those players at all.

Potentially the worst trade I have seen proposed on this subforum
