SVG running Detroit Pistons could get ugly - Drew Sharp

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri May 16, 2014 6:41 pm

Van Gundy's a recycled coach liberated from the NBA scrapheap, cleaned, polished and passed off as a fresh new vision for what would be his third team.

...it's yet another example of the Pistons being more interested to engage in what's expeditious rather than what's the correct path for a franchise desperately seeking a complete rebuild....

...This was another public relations move for Gores. Another attempt at convincing an increasingly disinterested public that NBA basketball is still relevant in the Detroit area.

I'm sure he's pleased that he snatched Van Gundy away from the Warriors with the promise of organizational control. But it was an unnecessary risk putting absolute trust in somebody with absolutely no prior basketball administrative experience.

Van Gundy lost previous battles with management in regards to his occasionally combative coaching style. He butted heads with Dwight Howard as the Orlando Magic's head coach, ultimately leading to his dismissal two years ago...

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

The only way Drew Sharp would have anything positive to say about whoever the Pistons hired would be if his cousin Scott Perry got the job.

Drew Sharp is the most constantly negative beat writer around. He's an insufferable Debbie Downer on everything.

I guess Colangelo and Dantoni would have been better. We werent getting any big names at either position and im more than thrilled everytime SVG opens his mouth. He says all the things we want and vision here as fans.

So you would've rather hired Isiah or Colangelo?

And by the way, even though he overstayed his welcome and his end years weren't pretty, our last GM built a championship team which enjoyed an amazing run of success … and he had no prior administrative experience. Come to think of it, neither does Phil Jackson, the anointed savior of the Knicks franchise. Nor did Doc Rivers when the Clippers actually traded for him.

So SVG is "recycled trash" as a coach but unfit as our G.M. because he has no prior experience? :noway:

Drew Sharp is a professional troll. I really don't know why teams continue to credential him given his constant negativity. He was really trying to get a rise out of Gores during yesterday's press conference, and even though Gores handled it remarkably well, you just knew he'd follow up with something like this.

"it's yet another example of the Pistons being more interested to engage in what's expeditious rather than what's the correct path"

This couldn't be more inaccurate. For one, they took a month to make this hire so I don't see how this was about doing whatever was quickest. Second, they never do what is expeditious in these things. The Frank and Cheeks hires took like 2 months each. They've been the opposite of expeditious in hiring people under Gores. So to say this "another example" of being expeditous makes no sense in any way.

The day Drew Sharp says something positive will be when I actually get worried.

Drew Sharp is a complete moron, and has little more than a passing interest in the NBA.

Nothing he says should ever be repeated, respected, or credited.

Detroit beat writers are the worst. I don't read or listen to any of them.

doesn't it seem like we have some of the least knowledgeable or rather most apathetic hosts when it comes to basketball, I feel like other cities have much more things they could actually tell us instead of generic casual commentary
I came here to do two things: get lost and slice **** up & I'm all out of directions.

#tellemwhyyoumadson

Sharp is a waste of space!

We actually hired the best coach available! Enjoy that. Celebrate that!

To put a negative spin on it is insane

An off-shoot benefit of hiring Stan Van Gundy is he's more a national interest figure and as a result national writers will be paying more attention to us now and providing info that our local beat writers couldn't be bothered to dig at and/or report (or two kowtowed by having their access threatened over the years to be completely subservient).

Depends on your source. David Mayo over on MLive is pretty solid, and even runs a weekly Q&A column.

But, Sharp and Ellis are about useless. Bad writers, bad opinions, just plain bad. It especially doesn't look professional for Ellis to constantly be arguing with people in Twitter over dumb stuff.

Didn't bother giving the guy the click he's chasing by writing sh*t like this, but he's obviously a moron.
