I understand it - will be interested in who the big man coach eventually is though. But SVG is a meticulous, heavy planning, hours of video type of coach and Sheed struck me as more of a "I'll get out there and practice with these guys guys and impart some wisdom on them" but not a guy who really wanted to to the hours of video, game planning and the like that is expected out of assistants especially.

I'll miss you, Coach Sheed.

I agree. I didn't have a good feeling about Rasheed returning once SVG was hired. Stan needs to make sure the players know he's in charge and that would've been hard to do with Rasheed yelling over him on the sidelines lol.
I just don't think their personalities would've meshed.
In terms of big man replacement coaches, it sounds like the staff is set, so my guess is either one of these guys will be the big man coach, or Stan might just take on that task himself.
Dery just mentioned on the radio that he thinks they should give Mahorn an interview and chance at it. That would be awesome, but I think if they had any plans to do that he wouldve already been hired and announced as part of the staff today.

As great as it was having Rasheed on the staff (and he did a great job with Drummond) but our bigs overall were awful defensively. Having someone more experienced like Stan and Malone to teach them how to defend will be a big upgrade.

Supposedly Loyer is still with the Org and listed as an Assistant Coach, but more than likely he'll be reassigned - but he wasn't let go like the rest of the staff was today.

I wonder if he even wanted to come back. He probably wanted to leave since Dumars didn't return as our GM. Either way, it was cool while it lasted Sheed. Bad decision by SVG if he didn't try to rehire him.

The Player Development Coaches have not been hired/named yet. Sheed was a PD coach for the bigs here before being bumped up to the bench when Cheeks was fired and his top assistant left with him. Not saying Sheed will go back to that role or anything, but just that there will be more coaching staff yet added.

Hearing/Reading what Datome said about Rasheed and his development I kinda think this is a mistake.

A bit upset that @DetroitPistons won't be bringing back Rasheed Wallace... He was a great tutor to josh smith and @AndreDrummondd

Rasheed not returning is because SVG knows what the f**k he is doing. Thanks for the memories Sheed but you can go now. We need to make room for real coaches....

What did Datome say exactly?
Sheed will get another coaching job somewhere.

SVG is a meticulous guy. Sheed isn't. Both have big personalities.
Look, when you take over a terrible situation the easiest thing to do is cull all of the management team that created the terrible situation you've now got to fix.
Sheed is more than likely collateral damage. He may not have been doing a bad job but SVG is trying to fix an entire organization. That sometimes means you gotta let good people go so you can rebuild it the exact way you want

But we're supposed to belive SVG is gonna give Monroe a max deal? I can see us letting him walk and making eveyone not nammed Drummond availble.

If Billups isn't retained, this might actually be the first season without any major pieces remaining from the 04 championship team. That team's shadow has lingered for a long time.

I like Sheed as a consultant but not as an assistant (if that makes any sense).
While watching the games Sheed would act too much like a player (hooting and hollaring after plays, etc). It's an endearing quality but I'd kind of like the assistants and head coaches to distance themselves a bit and assume more of an authoritative role than that.
I don't really have any data for how he was actually teaching the big guys. He may have been fantastic and the coach was just an idiot for not initiating the offense from the post. Or he may have been awful which is why Cheeks / etc didn't call plays down there.
So I think he was a skilled post player during his playing days when he chose to play down there. But I really can't point to any example where he succeeded or failed at transferring that knowledge to others.
So meh?
