Cavs Listening to Offers for Irving

Cavs don't wanna pay Irving the max. Any chance the Pistons could be interested? Offensively, Irving is a stud. Defensively, not so much, but he's still one of the best PGs in the league and would be a huge upgrade over Jennings. Anyone think the Pistons make an offer? Since our 1st round draft pick is no longer tied up we could offer something like Jennings, KCP and our 2016 & 2018 1st rounders for Irving and Gee. Not saying I think that gets it done, but it works financially and I think they'd have to at least consider it if they're serious about not paying Irving the max.

What do you guys think? Any interest in Irving, or do you think he's overrated?

Id love to pair Irving with Monroe/Drummond but we have nothing to offer the Cavs

Irving is a very talented offensive player who still needs some matuarity and seasoning, and I'd bet the farm on him.

However, I think the contract issue is not the the Cavs won't pay Irving, but that Irving is rumored not to want to sign a max extension with CLE. I doubt he'd be too much more inspired by our train wreck roster, even with the new hope that SVG brings. (This also says that people have called the Cavs about him, not that they are openly requesting offer.)

I think he wants to go to a big market, I'd only offer for him if he accepts re-sign with us.

If this is true, I think we (and almost every other NBA team) is obligated to do our "due diligence" and call the Cavs to kick their tires on an Irving trade. And again, if it's true, I'd expect the Cavs' asking price to be through the roof, which should more or less end any opportunity before it begins.

He'd be a restricted free agent. He wouldn't have any choice assuming he signed a contract with another team that we then matched.

Can't get him without trading Drummond. And that's not going to happen so there's no deal to be made.

You can force your team to trade yourself, like Love is going to do and like Irving is going to do. It's not the first time this happens. Even Jennings forces his team to trade him

He wants a big market, and I think he could even sign the one year QO or whatever it is in order to become a UFA after one extra year in Cleveland - most RFA will look to get their first big payday after their rookie deals, but Kyrie likely made enough bank from his endorsement deals to gamble on the one year deal - and I'm sure his endorsement deals have a pay kicker should he end up in a prime market.

You can't compare Jennings' situation to Love's. Love is a top 10-20 player in the league. Jennings is far from it. And the reason players are able to force their way off teams like that is because the team is scared of losing them for nothing. That doesn't work with restricted free agents because unless they accept the 1 year qualifying offer and then become a UFA the next year, the other team will match offers for them. And if they accept the 1 year qualifying offer then you can trade them at that point, but I find it highly unlikely Irving would take that course of action when he could get paid.

I'd like to get him -- if he was on board long-term, and if the price was right. Kyrie doesn't excite me, though, because this team REALLY needs solid defense at the point, and he doesn't provide it. If we were to build around Irving and Drummond, we'd need to find some really solid defenders to fill out the roster -- or Andre needs to take about five steps forward defensively.

All that tweet says is that they've had calls.

Doesn't mean they're actually considering moving him.

I dont want to trade Monroe or Drummond and future picks for a diva PG who doesn't play defense. He is very good and obviously he would help us tremendously but I don't see a deal that can be made that is something SVG would consider.

OMG NOOO! Give up another 1st round pick? Please!! Lets not do that. Having Irving would be nice though he doesn't really excite me. We would still need a true starting SF.

I'd rather exchange trash for D-Will than studs for Kyrie.
