They said they are going to decline his option making him a RFA. They want to sign another max player and I wonder how much of a offer it would take for them not to match. Parsons would be great for this team and I would like to throw a 4/50 at him and see what happens.

They will match almost any offer I assume. The key for them will be getting their max or close to max free agent signed before Parsons. His cap hold is crazy small, something like $1,700,000. As long as they sign the free agent(s) first they can go over the cap to keep Parsons.

They will only match Parsons to a point, they want another star to come in. I hope SVG meets him at midnight July 1st. He's the best outcome for us this FA. Imagine a Parsons/Monroe/Drummond front court.

Much ado about nothing

They still have his bird rights and he's a RFA. If they can dump Asik & Lin into someone's cap space they'll have enough room to sign a max FA (Melo) while Parsons is on the cap hold, then they can use his bird rights to resign him.

We might be able to pick up Lin + pick 25 for nothing if we are willing to give away our cap space.

He would be a great fit for us. Young athletic 3 who can hit the three, drive to the rim, rebound, handle the ball, and a pretty good passer. I think he has regressed defensively since his rookie season, but he has quick feet and I think with SVG placing an emphasis on defense, that Parsons could get back to that type of player.

But the reality is, Houston declined his option just to make him a restricted free agent. So, they are pretty much looking to match most long term options. I see them matching anything up to 12-13 million. They can go over the cap to sign him, if they are able to lure Melo there.

Best bet is have SVG meeting with him at midnight and see if a quick top offer can be enough for Houston not to match as they chase Carmelo.

I figure they will try to match anything but If we could get him to quickly sign a offer sheet before Houston can get ahold of a max player then maybe we have a shot at him. Its unlikely but definitely worth taking a shot at.

The option for Parsons was only $964,750. With as small as that number is it's not anywhere near enough incentive for Houston to risk losing him by going after another max contract guy. This will only be done to keep Parsons as a restricted free agent this offseason as opposed to an unrestricted free agent next offseason. He's going to be a Rocket next season and there's no doubt about it. I'd love for Detroit to have a shot but it's not happening.

Offer him a front loaded contract and call it a day

Realistically, HOU will go after Love or Melo and then sign Parsons since they have his bird rights and go over the cap.

They tried dumping both last trade deadline and didnt get any solid offers

Parsons isnt worth more than 8-9 M but factoring in that he is restricted and no one wants to sign with Detroit as a FA I think we could get away paying him 12M a year but front load the contract to 15-16M in the first two years there is no way in hell Houston matches it

The ideal situation is to take on Lin for nothing and sign and trade Smith for Parsons

Rockets then go after Melo and put out this lineup next season

Beverly / Harden / Melo / Smith / Howard

Remember Houston lost in the first round with Parsons last season and they want to improve, resigning him to a long term and pricey contract doesnt help them do that

Lin/Jennings
KCP / Singler

Get him to sign an offee sheet ASAP with a starting salary of $10 mil.

If Houston match good for them
If they don't match I'm fine with paying him that much money as he'll spread the floor for Drummond & Monroe long term

Yeah Id offer parsons 10-12 mill. It might be stretching his actual worth but you know he'll compete every night.

Parsons would be an ideal fit in a SVG offense. I hope we have what it takes to get him. I'm not really in love with idea of getting Lin, he's a bit of a soft turnover machine. That being said, he could thrive in a pick and roll heavy offense with bigs like Drummond and Monroe gobbling up his wild shots and taking some of his getting hung up in the air passes. He's a somewhat upgrade (higher character more hunger to prove cats wrong) over Jennings.

I'd rather just have Gordon Hayward. Hayward is younger, better with the ball in his hands and can switch between the 2 & 3.

I would take Parsons over Hayward but I would be happy with either one.

Hayward will probably cost at least 2-3 million more per year with the advantages you described plus he is also a better defender than parsons

Unless we can somehow dump Smith and/or Jennings we are looking at the cap space to either 1) add one sure starter or 2) roll the dice on 2-3 guys who could be starters. I'm in the "take the 50 cent piece over 2 quarters" crowd. I like Hayward the best of the available options for several reasons: age, versatility, he grew up in the Midwest, team need and mental make up. He's a no nonsense gym rat who loves basketball while I think Parsons wants to be a movie star. I don't know if Parsons even picks up our call other than to use us to get money out of Houston, while I do think we could work out a S&T with Utah to secure Hayward.


No point in showing up at Parson's house at midnight if he's in LA that night. He's either Lakers bound or staying in Houston.

Unfortunately, you can't really sign Parsons to a quick offer sheet. Teams can negotiate with players starting July 1st but you can't sign anyone until July 10th.

That gives the Rockets 10 days to negotiate with other free agents and if they agree to something, have them signed on the 10th. Meaning they can match any quick offer the Pistons throw at Parsons.
