http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2088 ... ngs-careerLooking those videos... And some people still thinking Smith hurt our team more than Jennings...
"According to ESPN’s real plus-minus statistic, Jennings’ -4.37 Defensive RPM puts him at 85th out of 87 point guards."
Calderon seems like Gary Payton when you compare him with Jennings.

Hes so bad, Ive said before he is the biggest flaw to the lineup. He cant defend a lick which constantly gives up guard penetration causing the our whole defense to collapse. It starts with him as too why we gave up so many wide open 3s. Then you look at how he cant penetrate or shoot efficiently on offense but continues to chuck away and you start to really see why he is a cancer out there. He contributes nothing but a few sweet passes but still cant effectively run a offense.

I remember laughing at him getting stonewalled in free agency. Thinking to myself like anybody is going to sign this knucklehead. He's a PG that can't dribble or finish with his off-hand. No way. Then JoeD signed him and I was just like,

I guess the joke was on me.
The article seemed to hint that Van Gundy could get through to him and I just don't see that. Hopefully Stan can raise his value just enough that we can dump him on some other poor sucker. With how many good PGs there are in the league I just can't envision Jennings ever competing with the top 50% of them.

Everyone on this team will be better because of SVG, they would be better under any competent coach, but the onus will be on BJ to put the dedication and effort into becoming a decent defender.
His defense really was the main problem IMO, maybe even more so than the big 3 lineup.

Only Joe Dumars goes and signs Charlie V and Brandon Jennings when literally not one team in the entire league was interested in either for trades or FA
So glad we are finished with that scumbag

Stan Van Gundy is a good coach, not a magician.

This. He would have to be Jesus to make Jennings look like he's playing adequate defense.

I see two options...
1) Trade for a crap expiring
2) Play him off the bench
There might be a third undesirable option in there somewhere... but getting him out of the starting lineup might be the closest thing to a forum consensus that this board has seen.

His contract expires before Drummond re-signing, so I think this is the most realistic option.
I'd offer the max to Bledsoe or overpay Lowry if we want to compete and be a serious team.
Lowry is cool in Toronto but it's not like they were contenders or something like that, so if we put a 10-12 millions per year contract to him I think he'll be here in a second.
The only thing with Lowry or Bledsoe are his injuries... seems like a risk, but when they're healthy they're competitive as f**k and they always play hard.

That article barely scratched the surface as to why Jennings is absolute garbage. He can't shoot, nor can he finish around the rim. His shooting form is absolutely broken, as all of his energy behind the shot is from the upper body and not from the legs. He is clearly incapable of finishing layups with either hand, as he will almost always use his right hand to score.
His assist numbers are clearly padded, as he tends to hog the ball more when Detroit is losing (increased usage % in losses, and increased assists in wins). He has no clear idea of what protecting a lead is, or valuing the time left in a game. He will take the same low percentage shots, and pass to low percentage shooters in bad spots regardless of the situation. His shots are essentially the same as live-ball turnovers when he can't finish around the rim, or he takes an ill-advised long jumper.
Defensively, let's not even go there. He's a net negative on both sides of the floor. Jennings can't play shooting guard or any other position with any sort of increased efficiency unlike Josh Smith. Smith has a higher chance of being salvageable next season in contrast to Jennings for this sole reason.
Sure, Brandon has a ton of upside, due to his age, however his life decisions indicate that he's not very critical of his own game to seek improvement. Why would he listen to anyone else's suggestions? He skips college to go overseas, and he prefers to play in the Drew League instead of actually hiring some help to focus on areas of weaknesses in his game. Jennings is a knucklehead with no backbone to boot, which he confirmed by deleting his twitter after criticizing LeBron's leg cramping the other night.
Detroit just needs a game manager at the point guard position. Not an elite superstar, but someone that isn't a complete idiot with little professional skill. He's a street baller at best right now.

Jennings is incredibly irritating. He's so naturally gifted, and yet he is a complete moron. It's like having a Corvette that can only shift between 1st gear and reverse.

Ummm, ease up on the scumbag thing, it's not funny.
And FWIW Cleveland offered CV the full MLE back in the day and Joe overpaid to "steal" him from Lebron & co...

Yeah, I guess the best bet would be having him come off the bench and hope he could spark some offense with his shooting.. But as a starter in this league, I believe he is done. Last year was absolutely awful, and I don't think its going to get that much better. Maybe we can use some of the cap space to get a spot starter at worst (that'd be better).

If Jennings is on this team, I'll be shocked if he isn't starting.

Doesn't the fact our coaches had no system on either side of the ball effect the PG more than anyone else?
Look at our PnR D - no one knew WTF was going on at all!
Methinks Jennings is a bit of a moron but kid has talent - he needs direction

Our PnR defense was so awful last year, they never knew what to do, because it seemed like Cheeks/Loyer would ask them to change it mid-game, and that isn't helpful with low IQ players like Smith and Jennings.
I'm sure SVG will help this. There will be a system in place, and adjustments will be known well before the game, and SVG isn't going to wildly deviate from those plans quarter to quarter like our recent moron coaches.
It will help. But, Jennings is still an idiot.

qft
Pistons need a new starting PG, this team is not going anywhere with Jennings playing major minutes. HIs game is too flawed, maybe SVG can help him, but until he actually changes his game a lot, sit his ass on the bench or better yet trade him asap.
