Monroe or Smith? Suspicious words from SVG

Stan Van Gundy wrote:What it is defensively is system – and I don’t just mean a system, because everybody’s rules are fairly similar, but a system that you drill and teach every single day. It takes a lot of work on the defensive end of the floor. You’re not going to be a great defensive team if you’re not a great practice team – and it’s system, it’s obvious commitment from the players. And then, the one thing – a physical attribute – that really helps defense is size. And we have size and we have shot-blocking with Andre Drummond and with Josh Smith.”

Smith is a shot blocker. Monroe isn't a shot blocker. I think you are trying to put meaning where something isn't.

I'd file this under obvious observation, don't think there is anything suspicious about the comment.

Smooove historically blocks more shots than Moose if memory serves (and given how often it fails me I'm probably wrong on this, but too lazy to research).

Besides, if he said Smith is terrible and I hate him, he's driving his zero trade value into negative territory.

He said so many times Monroe has a great "value" for him. I think he's trying to sell Monroe and he's going to keep Smith as his underdog.

I don't read into anything SVG says about Monroe or Smith. Really, either could be had if the price is right. He isn't going to undersell either guy.

For as much as we know the big 3 can't play long stretches together, it would be interesting to see the effect SVG has on them. I really don't like to judge Smith or Monroe's past season because no one was really put in a position to succeed.

Absolutely agree with you, I think if he can't get any good offer for either, he's going to keep both and manage them like a great trio. But, I think he's most likely to trade Monroe than Smith (also Monroe has more value too)

Defensively they can be MUCH better than they were last season. Offensively, unless Monroe channels his inner Sam Perkins and extends his rage beyond the arch it's not going to ever work.

I agree, that's why I'm hoping that NOP really wants Moose. Get a piece that fits better with this team.

I'd be willing to bet that all the teams interested in Monroe as a RFA are interested in him as a center. Further I'd bet that Monroe sees himself as a center. It would be interesting to me to get a look at Greg's off-season workout regime and if he's focusing on adding a jumper or working more on back to the basket stuff; adding bulk/size to bang down low or working on agility and quickness.

Everyone is waiting on the Love deal to go thru before they even begin to think about Moose

I don’t just mean a system, because everybody’s rules are fairly similar, but a system that you drill and teach every single day.

This here is the suspicious part. I mean, is he talking about personal hygiene?

All he did was name the shot blockers lol

Monroe knows he isn't a shot blocker everyone does. Man you guys that would rather trade Monroe than Smith are really going to regret it when Josh is still bombing long 2's and bringing the ball up the court thinking he can dribble.

That interior free throw shooting to wow, Drummond at 40% and Smith at 50% ... yum.

THIS!

We needed a quality coach and now have one. SVG will be able to use the 3 of them properly.

Throw in Jorts and our PF/C rotation is very good.

Or stan gets smith on track and all the smith doubters will jump back on board.Stan isnt the type of coach that will let smith shoot jumpers from 3 at a high clip and if smith does decide to go off on his own thing stan will bench him and not worry to much about it since he has complete control.I think smith comes in this season and plays within the system and gets back to what he does best, iam sure smith knows his stats from last year and iam sure he hears all the negative things that were said or written about him and will come in ,do what hes told and let alot of the blame fall equaly, instead of it being put squarely on his shoulders.

But thats just my little theroy.

Smith is a moron, he has already stated he never looks at his stats, he think he has Melo's skill set, Smith stopped jacking 3's for one season, why would he change now?

He looks to blame everyone from him self.
