Still can't believe how lucky the pistons were to get him

Regardless, yes, we were very lucky to get him at #9, considering there are only two players ahead of him that I would consider better (David & Lillard).

I don't know what the hell the other 7 teams were thinking lol.

Most teams questioned his "motor" and desire to play the game. On the court, the video illustrates what teams didn't want to see from him in the post. More fadeaways and jumpers in contrast to powering to the basket for easier shots. Drummond is too strong and athletic to settle for those shot attempts in a one-on-one match-up.

He's come quite a long way, in a relatively short period of time, as far as post moves are concerned. I'm thrilled that he's keeping at it.

There are a number of things that make Andre special (his leaping ability in a heavy frame, his second jump rate, his nose for the ball, his foot speed), but if you wanted to single out the most special thing about him, it's those hands. Oh, those hands. Glue on his fingers, super quick reactions on D, and the ability to snatch things down in traffic.

That's right, but right now Lillard is still the better player, no doubt Drummond is going to be so much dominant and important, but not in this moment.

I mean if 14 and 13 with a 22.65 PER, 1st in the NBA In offensive rebounds and 2nd in field goal percentage isn't production then I don't know what to say. Sure Dre has a ton of untapped potential but to say that he is PURE POTENTIAL is akin to calling him Anthony Randolph.

Good post, I hate when people talk about Drummond like that. Drummond was a beast and deserves all the credit and hype he recieves.

Okay i over exaggerated my point, however it still remains, which is, Lillard has shown a lot more than Dre, unless the argument is Dre's better because he leads the league in offensive rebound and is 2nd in field goal percentage.

This thread is a total disappointment. By the title, I was expecting Dre in a unitard leading us in some step-aerobics, Richard Simmons-style, so we could shed those extra pounds before beach season was upon us. Sorely. Disappointed.

It's kind of annoying that whenever a powerful center comes out they try to make him decrease his range

Yeah Drummond shouldn't probably take those shots, but extra range wouldn't hurt him

I agree that comparing Lillard and Drummond is apples and oranges. Direct comparisons really don't work as they're asked to do almost completely different things.

Lillard (20.7 pts, 5.6 assists, 18.69 PER) at 23 years old is a far more polished player who has no real holes in his game. Really, the only thing that seems a little light for a PG is his assist level, but he's one of those "modern" score first PGs and is a very effective player. Great free thow shooter and clutch as well. He stayed in school and in his case it was a great decision.

Drummond (13.5 pts, 13.2 reb, 22.65 PER) at 20 years old is much more raw and uneven. Already a great rebounder and clean-up scorer he has the physical tools to do so much more.

Drummond appears to be a more scarce kind of player. Quality point guards seem to show up with some regularity, but bigs with Drummond's combination of size, strength, and athleticism are rare. Relative value I suppose depends to some degree on need, and how much weight you put on potential ceiling. He lasted to 9 because he had a relatively poor year at UCONN. That whole program was pretty disjointed that year, but a valid criticism is that his level of interest can seem to vary. He was better last year than in his first, and this year will be his first as a legal adult. AD seems to care about the game and wants to be respected, and with maturation that bodes well in my opinion.

You know it's the dog days of summer when someone posts a workout tape we all watched two years ago prior to Drummond being drafted and we still get a thread out of it. (Summer League can't come soon enough!)

I agree Lilliard is better than Drummond at the moment. But there's one major hole in Lilliard's game and that's his atrocious defense.

I think atrocious is a little strong for Lillard's defense. He's still a net plus player. I'm not saying that he doesn't need to improve, but that's not real uncommon in young players learning the league. It certainly can be mentioned as one of his areas of weakness.
