Seeing how James and Wade play alot of isolation plays, make me wonder how Dumars/Thomas/Johnson coexisted. Did each player prefer wing, baseline, or top of the key... right/left side of court preferences? Some guys spot up in certain areas? When Vinnie and Dumars were on the floor, wasn't Dumars more of the ball handling point guard that brought ball up the court?

There were rarely small-ball lineups with those three on the court at once.
With Dumars and Vinnie on the court, Dumars was typically the PG.

Roles were really well defined on that Pistons team. Isiah was always pilotting the ship, that is except when he had a ridiculously hot hand, then he would slide to the two. Joe Dumars ran the one when Isiah was on the bench or blazing hot. Occasionally they would alternate on plays taking turns bringing the ball up. Vinnie came in to flat out score, so he played off the ball.

On times when they ran the three guard offense, Joe posted on the left block or did curls along the baseline. Vinnie would alternate from the right and left shoulders. They had several sets and numerous motion plays they ran.

Isiah and Dumars could essentially interchange PG, think 2 PGs you see now. Vinnie was 6'2" but built like a tree. SFs were shorter and lighter back then.

Pistons also had the best def frontcourt in the NBA with Laimbeer, Salley, Edwards, Rodman and Mahorn. That kind of depth and Laimbeers outside shooting allowed Daley to use dozens of lineups and always find mismatches.
