curious to know from ppl who has coached or played basketball, what do you think of K.C.P playing point. If he could be brought along , even gradually, would love to draft joe harris as a shooting guard. Any thoughts? Chauncy didn't have great handles nor did he break anyone down off the dribble.My question is can k.c.p be coached up to handle primary ballhandling duties in a motion offense similar to San Antonios offense.

His handles and driving through traffic is the biggest holes to his game at this moment. I wouldn't try this experiment.

No. Nope.

He led the league in fewest turnovers, but that's because he barely ever touched the ball. Whenever he did try to dribble, he looked very awkward and uncomfortable. He didn't really display any playmaking skills either. I don't see it at all.

I could maybe see him shifting to SF though to accomodate another SG in the lineup.

If we draft Joe Harris though (and I love the idea of taking Harris at 38), I don't think they would be taking him thinking he's going to be our longterm starting SG. More likely just taking him to be an extra, cheap shooter to have off the bench. So I don't think KCP will have to move positions at all based on who we draft at 38 this year. If we sign or trade for a proven/better SG though, and don't get anyone better at SF, I could maybe see KCP being used at SF.

PG, not at all though in my opinion.

Chauncey was not doing fancy cross-overs or whatever, but he was a good ballhandler who was great at avoiding turnovers.

KCP simply does not have handles good enough to trust him doing anything more exciting than straight line drives. His handles aren't good enough to bring the ball up the court, and given that he's spent his entire career as a scorer primarily or a spot-up shooter, I really doubt that he's developed the passing ability or has the court vision to run the offense. If he did have the capability to run the point at all, he'd probably have done it more often.

I would put the chances of him being able to develop into a point guard, even a nominal one, as very, very low. Maybe if he was playing in a triangle and did nothing more than spot-up like Steve Kerr, but that would require us to have a pair of wings who could be trusted to bring the ball up the court and do the creating, and we currently lack any wings with that ability (assuming that Stuckey is gone and that Datome is going to spend most of his time at PF).

Good lord, no. He'd have more success as a center than as a point guard.

I struggle to come up with names of anyone who came into the league as a pure sg/sf type and became even passable point guards. I'm a big believer in the passing gene, either you have it or you don't. KCP doesn't have it.

why can't we just be happy with the fact that he's going to be a very good shooting guard?

just kidding. only tools do that. but if KCP just refined his outside stroke a bit, something that he should have no problem doing. and continues to be an absolute dog on defense, then he has every reason to be a good starter for the majority of his career.

i honestly don't think there's a SG in the league that can run like KCP. dude is literally a cheetah out there.

no evidence? i don't buy that. KCP has definitely shown flashes of brilliance playing on the wing on both ends. hopefully SVG utilizes his elite speed and motor on offense and runs him a myriad of screen and curl actions ala rip hamilton. if i remember correctly, KCP was among the best in all of college basketball in terms of converting pull-up jumpers.

how about ron harper . came into league as a s.g/ s.f. played point bulls. I don't know what kcp is capable of. 1/2 time glued him standing in the corners other 1/2 glued to the bench.

I think KCP could play PG if Jordan was the SG and Pippen was the SF.

I think he's capable of playing the 5 positions.....
