Jodie Meeks = Detroit's Best 3-Point Shooter

Post#1 » by treefi » Tue Jul 1, 2014 10:02 pm

87.5% free throws for his career.

He worked his ass off for 5 years and has earned this contract.

He's only 26 years old. He plays solid defense.

$6.3 million for this guy isn't the end of the world...

Meeks - 15.7ppg on 11.6 shots per game. Made 162 threes at a 40.1% rate.
Beal - 17.1ppg on 15.7 shots per game. Made 138 threes at a 40.2% rate.

Obviously Beal is younger... but Meeks is a HELLUVA lot better than Anthony Morrow.

these stats should make us feel a lot better but 6.3 per is way too much for him.. we outbid ourselves once again

Man, I wish we had Mike D'Antoni last year so Smith could have shot 40% from 3....

Maybe in an alternate dimension or something.

Good post. Its hilarious hearing this guy being called a chucker for scoring 16 ppg on 12 FGAs and 40% 3FG.

A chucker scores 16 on 16 attempts while shooting 35% from 3.

If a guy can make 40% of his 3's, he can shoot as many as he wants. And if he can put up 16 pts on only 12 shots , he deserves to take 12 shots every game.

That's not a chucker at all.

Nice post, Treefi. I'm going against the grain and am excited about this signing.

People want sexy names and big time power plays. Signing Meeks was none of that. It was a smart play by Detroit, and we'll likely look back in a year and applaud SVG and Bower on this deal. Nice comp to Beal, by the way.

First of all, great post Ghost.

And that's it. D'Antoni's system gets a lot of shots up, which inflates players overall raw stats. There are more rebounds, more shots to take- usually leading to higher PPG.

But, as Treefi pointed out, Meeks took less than 12 attempts per game and did the rest of his damage at the line. That isn't inflated statistics, that's pretty efficient for a 2-guard playing on one of the most talent depleted squads in all of the league. It was essentially a fading Gasol, Meeks and Young with random guys stepping up now and again.

Whoa his TS was .601. I'm starting to breath again.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Not to mention...Meeks will be in the prime of his career for these 3 years he's under contract for the Pistons.

The signing depends on how much dead weight can be removed... if you eliminate two scrubs then the signing is fine.
Can't help but wonder what the plans for KCP are... this feels like a stock pile b4 a trade.

What the heck. I go to work and come back and we sign Meeks?

Wat.

But I'm ok with Meeks, I wanted KCP going as our starter but it looks like he's going to be our sixth man barring any major trades here on out. Seems to be an overpay for a role player but meh.

Meeks has started over half the games he has played in at the NBA level after being a 2nd round pick in 2009.

Some people think we are in Miami or LA and we got a contending team, so the players are going to come to play here for the minimum.

19.5 รท 3 = 6.5...

Does anyone know what the full MLE is going to be?

Assuming it's close to $6 mil I don't think we grossly overpaid Meeks. He could have got a similar contract on a number of teams...

Let's focus on the positive: dude can shoot it! We needed 3 point shooting and nailed it here.

Off-season has just begun for us and so far so good.

In SVG I trust

I don't get all the people hating on this deal, hes a pretty good 3 point shooter and free throw shooter. If hes overpaid it's not by much, there was so much negativity in the Detroit signed Jodie Meeks thread. I just don't get why.
