Monroe is alot more valuable as a player and as a trade piece too. So do we sign Monroe and trade him for assets and hope Smith at the PF works out. Smith at PF could work and we could reap the benefits of the pieces we get for Monroe. Or do we say F Smith and give him up for pennies on the dollar of what he is worth due to the fact that he was not a PF last year and his stock isnt that high? I think Smith could work with Andre due to the fact that Smith is a good passer. An athletic frontcourt of Smith and Andre could be a good thing to see develop? I think the only way Smith could stay is if we move him to PF. At SF he is a liability.

We've now come down to the final decision and it's just a matter of time of what Stan will decide to do. Once Lebron and melo decide their desitinations, offers will fly at Monroe and Stan. I say we might as well see what a real coach can do with them both on the team. Smith's value can't get any worse, it can only get better. As for Monroe, any sign and trade involving him won't bring back nearly as much as signing him now then potentially trading him later, if we need to. SVG will bring the best out of him.

I see you've fitting in as far as realism in trades go in this forum.

Welcome to #TheDilemma . The more I think about it, the more I feel like neither Monroe or Smith are perfect compliments, but they're (probably) going to be paid quite similar. They play different games but they're both borderline all-stars. You can back up either choice, there's a logical argument each way.

If we traded Monroe for a major upgrade at SF or PG... We would be a better team. The problem then is Smith will regress. The positive is that he has 3 years? Let him walk after and then get the perfect match for Drummond depending on how he develops? Sounds fine to me, but I totally get keeping Monroe instead.

The thing about this situation is that fans here think if we get rid of monroe, smith can step in at the 4 no problem and get right back to how he played in Atlanta. That would be easier said than done because he hasn't played the position in over a year! In the NBA it's tough maneuvering around like that and maintaining a high level of play.

I'm not saying Smith can't get back to form at the 4 I just think it's easier said than done and there would definitely be a long process of him getting back to that form if it ever happens.

both are good rebounders, both are great passers. smith can shoot a litle better than monroe. smith is great defender, monroe is terrible. monroe can post up (actually he is one of the best in the leauge), smith can dribble and drive. smith is a shot blocker.


I would choose smith over monroe because we need a defender in he paint (drummond is terrible right now)

Last year I thought if we had a 2 guard who can score on the perimeter we would be pretty good. We didn't at all and josh n jennings second half performances sucked bc teams plays us tough inside and those were forced to take shots n they arent great shoooterssss

Now with meeks and kcp improving we might be better with smith Monroe drummond again

Monroe's time as a Piston will eventually come to an end. The Pistons already committed to Smith for the next three seasons plus being more athletic and experienced than Monroe. The more sense to trade him. Someone mentioned Wilson Chandler, that's an option. Maybe Corey Brewer?


Speaking of KCP, what has he done so far into his career in terms of strengths/weaknesses? What are his chances of be reliable or consistant enough to be in the lineup for the future of the Pistons? Especially with the Pistons drafting Spencer Dinwiddie and signing Jodie Meeks?

Monroe is worth far more than either Chandler or Brewer. I'll be honest, I'd rather stick it out with Kyle Singler over either of those two, even though I know the majority of the Pistons board has a hard on for Chandler. I really don't think the Pistons are as "committed" to Josh Smith as his contract would suggest. I think SVG is more so committed to putting the best team on the floor regardless of contracts, and whatever way he can arrange that roster he will.

I'm sure there are more options out there besides the two names I listed. As for Singler, with the way he plays, I think he's better utilize from off the bench given his offensive output. As for the Monroe/Smith saga, one of them will have to be traded sooner or later in order to solve who should play at the starting PF for keeps. One of them won't be happy playing from the bench and the either one of them have the skill set to play SF.

It will definitely have to be resolved eventually. No team could afford to pay two bigs that kind of money with another big recieving a max very soon. You just cant properly build a team with that much capspace wrapped up in the frontcourt.

Stan knows this but we also cant allow ourselves to get screwed over here n the process of resolving the issue. One of them will eventually get traded but im not so sure it will be right now because every other GM is trying to take advantage of us in trades thinking we are desperate, Which we arent at the moment.
