Sigh. He's our starting SF now then? Not keen. He could be ok, but not what i had in mind.

We'd also be at 17-18 rostered players so a few guys would need to be cut or traded. Not like we don't have ready candidates for the former fate.

I'm more inclined to believe he's our backup SF. I'm not really sure why we signed Cartier Martin though if we're about to sign Butler. I'd much rather bring Cartier in as our backup than Butler.

I like both this and the Augustine signings.

Anything that makes it less likely Josh Smith will be seeing time at the 3 is a decent move in my book, even though I'm not bullish on Caron at all.

Guys will be cut or traded.

Agreed.

He's an upgrade over Singler.

But he wasn't in my list of SFs I wanted to target this offseason.

Doubtful, Singler is a better SF at this point. But a Singler/Butler combo at SF is a big upgrade to Smith/Jerebko, its certainly not what I wouldve wanted and I'm still hoping for a trade but we will have gotten incrementally better.

Jennings/Augustin/Dinwiddie
KCP/Meeks/Martin
Singler/Butler/Martin/Datome
Monroe/Smith/Jerebko/Mitchell
Drummond/Monroe/Gray

I am assuming that we will cut Siva & Harrelson, trade Bynum. Its not a roster full of big names but it has pieces that fit. The upgrade we will have made as far as shooting is concerned is tremendous.

Nice! I'm actually happy about this signing. I've always like Butler and I think he can be a starting SF still even at his age. He's not a long term solution but he will definitely help us next year. Now SVG needs to take out the trash (Bynum, Siva, Jerebko, Harrelson) and resign the Moose.

Jennings/Augustin/Dinwiddie
Caldwell-Pope/Meeks
Butler/Singler/Martin
Monroe/Smith/Mitchell
Drummond/Monroe/Gray

Not bad for now. Still lots of work that needs to be done though.

Interested by what the terms are. After the augustin signing we would only have about 5 mil in cap space. If we get caron for that i say we've done very well. If its more than that, it means a trade is on the way which is a good thing too.

I like it. Brings in a veteran at a position of need. He isn't necessarily good enough to automatically command the starting job, but can at the very least push Singler.

Won't be a long term deal, won't be too expensive and doesn't prevent the youth from progressing.

We have a very good idea as to what we're getting, not much in the way of surprises with Butler. At worst, he's an above average backup, at best he's an average starter.

Meeks, Butler & DJ all shot ~40% from 3 last year. I imagine our defense is going to be awful but at least we'll be able to space the floor.

To be honest, I don't even know if he's good enough for the backup job. Singler is definitely better, and I'd say that Cartier Martin is also probably better at this point in their careers.

Does he have anything left in the tank?? i haven't seen him play in a long time.
If the contract is cheap, i like the move. We don't have many good vet influences on the roster.

At this point RE: defense the only thing we can hope for is that better coaching and development from Drummond improve us in this regard, because we've certainly gotten no help from personnel in that regard.

Baby steps, baby steps....
