Ideally, neither of these guys but I fully expect Butler to be behind Singler on the depth chart. Butler doesnt have much left, he is a situational shooter at this point in his career, dont expect him to get anything more than 15-20 mins a game.

SVG already said he brought butler here to play so i think he will see about 20 minutes a game

i got Singler.
butler is on his last legs and though he'll still contribute (hopefully) he won't be up for big minutes.

I'm hoping Butler. Really sick of watching Singler i see nothing in him

It should be Singler. He's young. Still has potential for improvement. We're not in "win now" mode, so there is no reason to start an older player unless he is considerably better than his competition. I'd be very surprised if Butler has that much on Singler at this point in his career. If he does, that'll be a pleasant surprise.

Singler if KCPs starting at the 2, Butler if Meeks is starting.

Can you add a poll to this? i think the vet would start at the beginning of the season but SF is our weakest position and Singler somehow always found a way to start.

Actually start, with our current team? Smith. The real question is how should the minutes be distributed.

Smith 6
Singler 18
Butler 18
Martin 6

Butler could be less, depending on what he has left. I would hope he can be a contributor, given what we paid him. Don't sleep on Martin getting some time if Butler or Singler struggle.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

There is 0% chance that Smith starts at the 3 and plays only 3 minutes to start each half there. That isn't happening.

Unless Butler discovered the fountain of youth over the summer, he's not going to play starters minutes and I don't think he's very likely to start. I think SVG is going to love Singler though. He's basically the definition of a "system player" and always has been. He's just the type of guy that coaches always fall back to because they are so dependable and predictable. Until we get someone with dramatically more talent, he's likely to be a roster fixture under any coach.

Singler will start. Butler is basically washed up at this point, he can't do anything but shoot jumpers okay at this point.

Smith. I like having a strong defensive line up to start games

What does Singler do besides shoot 3s?

Even if Butler is just a spot up shooter, he avg 39% from 3 the last two years on 4 attempts per game. So if both are just going to be 3pt shooters, might as well go with the guy who is better, and Butler is also a better defender even at his age. Its good to have a vet who knows SVGs system in the starting lineup too until the rest learn it.

I could see KCP starting at SF before Singler does, but my guess is Butler probably gets the nod at least to start the season.

SVG said we will see a lot of KCP/Meeks together too, so even if Butler starts it will probably only be for 15-20 min like you said.

I think using Singler as a stretch 4 is something they should consider.

Smith at SF is good defense? Might as well just spot the opponent 20 points.

Under Van Gundy I think he will learn to defend the 3. Similar roll to rashard lewis in Orlando

Rashard Lewis played power forward for the vast majority of his tenure in Orlando. That's kind of what's fueling the "Van Gundy loves three point shooting and stretch fours!" mindset.

You're right. I thought he used to start at the 3 with big baby at the 4 but i guess not

Butler is (mostly) toast. He'll be a good veteran presence and situational shooter, but until someone better comes along, start Singler.
