On the bright side

Gores purchased the Pistons for a super low price, $325M to acquire 90% of the Pistons, the Palace, and DTE Energy Theater. This is the lowest price a team has sold for since 2000. I don't know Tom Gores motives...if he wants to be a longtime team owner or if he just wants to flip the Pistons as he does most of his business ventures for a big profit, but if he wants to flip the team, he is going to REALLY want to make it a winner to increase value.
With the Red Wings getting a new stadium, we just may see the Pistons sold and moved back to Detroit...Ilitch was interested in buying the team in 2010. Personally I do miss the days of both teams playing in the same arena.

325M for 90%, the Palace and DTE Energy Theater??

I was unaware it was so low. I bet the Clippers getting sold for 2B and the Bucks for 550M for the majority steak but also having to rebuild the arena basically makes Gores think he committed a robbery lmao.
Those little illustrations of the idea for the new Red Wing stadium look pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

Unfortunately it doesn't make hockey any more watchable lol

Are we really sure of what Gore's motives are?
He has a great history of making businesses profitable, and flipping them is usually part of the strategy.
But a lot of NBA owners own their team for prestige and belonging to a club that only a small number of people can be in. It isn't about short term profits (how many examples can you name where a team was flipped under 5 years)?
And with the new TV contract coming up, the franchises should even be more valuable.
IMHO, I think Gores is going to be around a long, long time.

Venture capitalists make business profitable, usually in the short term, by gutting payroll and running a skeleton crew until they find a buyer.
I don't think he's treating the Pistons in the same capacity. He can't, their are too many eyes on him. But, if he were planning to sell, doing so after the new TV deal would be an optimum time.

SVG has trumpeted the "community asset" line far too much if Gores isn't in it for the long haul
That said in 5 years the assets he bought could be worth triple what he paid for them...
At what point can you be too rich?

He would make so much bank after the TV deal, it'd be ridiculous.
But I don't think he wants to sell overall. Call me naive, but I think he wants to keep the Pistons for himself, especially if the team starts produces a winning culture.

It might depend on how good the team is. If they are competitive but not competing for titles he might sell.

I bet Gores sells the team to Gilbert after LeBron stops being a Cav.

Gores is a Michigan man. A rich guy like that needs to feed his ego by leaving a legacy before he dies. Winning a championship for his home state will have him remembered here for a long time. I think he's in it for the long haul, but that's just me. I can see where other people's view points are coming from but from the words that come out of Gores' mouth anytime he talks Pistons, is always to help build this community, which proves he is going to stay here.
Also for the price he got the Pistons for is a steal as the value already increased when the Clippers had the proposal from Steve Balmer to purchase them for 2 billion dollars. Every NBA team was reported to and the NBA itself included.

I think he at least is going to be around for 10 yrs and then sell if they arent serious contenders for the finals ,meaning at least make it to the eastern finals. If there 1st rd or 2 rd fodder between now and 10 yrs,I bet he sells.

This. At some point, rich guys know they are going to die with more money that could ever spend and start worrying about their legacy.
