What does George's injury mean for Detroit?

As harsh as it is to think about after such an awful injury this is potentially good news for Detroit.
No Georg and No Stephenson for Indiana.
Not only is Indiana now in jeopardy of missing the playoffs altogether but they are also in the central division with us which could also mean a couple extra wins for us.
A couple wins could be the difference between a playoff berth and not.
That being said, best wishes go out to PG for a swift and full recovery.

To be honest, I wouldn't call the injury good news for anyone. Yes, it opens up a potential playoff spot, but it's something that absolutely nobody is happy about - even other teams. As for Indiana,
Hill/Stuckey/Miles?/West/Hibbert
They've still got a great frontcourt, but they now have some gaping holes. I wouldn't put it past them to find a way to scrounge together enough wins to make the playoffs....They could also completely bottom out. It depends on if Hibbert can rediscover his fire. To be honest, their team looks similar to ours in starting talent...Jennings/KCP or Meeks/Singler or Butler/Monroe or Smith/Drummond. We have more depth, but they have more experience and a recent culture of winning.
If I were to update my seeding, it would go a little something like this:
1) Chicago Bulls
2) Cleveland Cavaliers
3) Toronto Raptors
4) Miami Heat
5) Washington Wizards
6) Charlotte Hornets
7) Atlanta Hawks
8) Detroit Pistons
So yes...I guess I do think it may be the thing that puts us into the playoffs. It's a shame if that's how it happens, though.

It means, I'm already disappointed with the season. Nonetheless, I'm not sure why we would assume Detroit lands a playoff spot because of this. The Pistons still need to work out their front court before I can make any prediction with some merit behind it. Otherwise, I wouldn't peg them too high, given how more balanced the East has become.

They'll miss the play-offs, but the league should do something about the player being injured during international team duties and clear his cap hit for the year or something so Indiana can try and fill the void by what is left in free agency or something.

Clearing his cap hit for the season doesn't help much though. Who would sign there on a 1-year deal?
The Pacers have/had serious payroll issues and they refuse to pay the tax so something had to give. Granger and then Stephenson were just the beginning.

It helps every team in the east, not just Detroit.
With Indy missing Lance, this hurts so much more.
PG's horrifying injury helps Cleveland and DC more than any other teams. Indy May still have enough to scrape into 8th place.

It should mean that they immediately call Andre Drummond's agent and remove him from that team ASAP.

Matrix is still out there isn't he? Slim pickings obviously though at this stage, I guess they could use the money for an expiring contract trade.

Na, freak injury. Could have happened on any court in any practice or game. Drummond needs the boost playing for the national team will give him. On another note I bet stuckey is ticked he just signed for another possible playoff drought this year.

There really is no reason to be excited about barley making the playoffs, especially over a team that is playing without its star player.
Sure we can barley make the playoffs this year, but does that mean we are even a good team? This just sounds like a mediocre team, which is downright sad cus we've been mediocre for years now

ugh at the pull the superstars overreactions...freak injury guys! How many times has this happened in the past 25 years for USA basketball? Or any serious injury for that matter? The answer is none if any. Still don't think Dre makes it anyways so nothing for the worriers to worry about anyways..

Obviously he meant 92 but that's an eye opener.

Stuckey is pretty much the reason Stuckey never makes the playoffs

Everyone on the general board still seems to think we'll still be worse than the pacers and miss the playoffs...
And suddenly the Knicks are unquestionably a 6 seed lol.

Indiana is a good team because they play defense, they'll be the new "Derrick less" bulls of this upcoming season. They'll be good with scrubs because they play defense and know what it takes mentally to win games.
Knicks have carmelo anythony, he could carry them to a playoff berth, with Phil in the driver seat, they are just as likely to be good as we are with SVG
I'm not agreeing with the general board, i'm just merely pointing out that we could be worse than the pacers and the knicks in a crap east could be the 6th seed

I think the league should enforce some type of rule for letting players play in these kinds of things.A team shells out millions of dollars and has high hopes for competing, and then something like this happens and totally knocks their feet out from under them. The league should at least make a comprise,if a player wants to play in these kinds of things and gets hurt, then the team shouldnt have to pay their contract until their back and healthy and if for some reason they arent back to what they were when they do come back, then the team should be allowed to only pay half of whats owed on the remaining contract so it dosent cripple their team.
I just cant see how its justified to pay players millions and millions of dollars, but not have some type of insurance policy for their team, and even that sucks because the team is losing out on more than money with pg out, they have lost a rising star in this league.

I'm not absolutely sure, but it seems like something that could be negotiated into a contract. Additionally, I would guess most players consult their team and trainers before agreeing to play in a competition outside of the NBA. Team USA basketball carries a lot of prestige, and I think teams are more likely to take the minor risk of him playing for Team USA as opposed to having a potentially disgruntled player on their hands. When was the last time a player of this caliber suffered a season ending injury in an off-season basketball game? No doubt it happens, but in comparison to how many players complete the league without hurting themselves, it's an overreaction to a fluke injury to claim they shouldn't be allowed to play at all.
Players could just as easily get injured in the Vegas/Orlando summer leagues, the Drew league, or any other summer ball. The injury that PG had nothing to do with where he was playing, that was such a freak injury, it could have happened in an un-televised scrimmage, full court drills, or any number of situations that a team cannot control.

Still don't see this as putting the Pistons into a better position though. I think this shuffles the top 7 teams around a bit, but I still think the Pacers are a playoff team, towards the bottom of the barrel now though. Pistons remain on that bubble competing for the last spot with probably 3-4 other teams.

All contracts (except those players with existing conditions) are insured. The pacers won't be paying for George's year long absence.
