Mayo- SVG says that Monroe hasn't informed team of QO

I didn't want this to get lost in the other thread but David Mayo had this to say and unlike the USATODAY story which cited "anonymous" sources, Mayo sites SVG himself.
Neither Greg Monroe nor his agent has told the Detroit Pistons of the player's plans to sign a qualifying offer and secure his unrestricted free agency next season, according to Stan Van Gundy, but a USA Today report that the big man intends to take that option could signal a short-term future for him with the team.
The USA Today report indicated Monroe has informed the Pistons of his decision to sign the qualifying offer. Van Gundy indicated late Tuesday that he has not been so notified.
Van Gundy consistently has said it is in the team's best interest to sign Monroe to a long-term deal, which he reiterated late Tuesday. But the two sides have not reached terms, Van Gundy has hinted that there are financial thresholds the team doesn't care to exceed in a new contract, and having Monroe for one more year at a cut-rate salary certainly would benefit the team in the short term.
Looks like this is all part of negotiations. More posturing by Monroe and SVG. I wouldnt doubt if Falk leaked Monroe's willingness to take the QO in order to make this threat seem more real to SVG, but SVG is posturing by stating that Monroe taking the QO is in any way good for this franchise. Sounds like this is clearly about getting max money.

Mayo > USA Today i hope. Anyway its in the middle of August, Monroe can sign the QO until 30th September. Signing the QO now wouldn't make any sense when you still got more than 6 weeks left for negotiation.

It was definitely a Falk camp leak because in that article it commented on how impressed Falk was with how Monroe took an emotionless, all-business, forward thinking approach to his free agency. How would anybody in the Pistons know (or really care) how Falk was feeling about Greg?
First story on this yesterday was "Greg is willing to take QO" and then that morphed into "Greg will take QO" which then was one-upped to "Greg has informed the Pistons that he will take the QO". All from anonymous sources - like each successive report used the previous as it's "source" but needed to take it a step further to be adding worth rather than regurgitating the same story.
Truth be told though, I hope it is true. I'd rather have $22M in cap space next season with Monroe walking than $9M and aying Monroe $13M per season.

Falk camp leak seems reasonable.

Until the ink on the QO offer with Monroe's name on it is dry, it's going to be all part of the negotiating process.
Posture away.

Truth is, we have way more flexibility this and next year with Monroe taking a QO.
We could make a trade taking more salary back this year... we also have enough money to get two really good players next summer... perhaps the SF we desperately need. Not a great FA class next summer but we would never land a tier 1 FA anyways.... and there are a bunch of tier 2 and 3 guys who will be available that might consider us.

Considering how absurd Falk is, this wouldn't surprise me at all.
The only consistent theme I'm picking up is that Monroe doesn't want to play for the Pistons anymore.

even if monroe didn't wanna be here anymore, he'd be stupid to not just sign a one year, 9-10 million dollar deal. he gets an extra 4-5 million this season, and we would gain a little leverage back in trades.
with that being said, with eric bledsoe STILL at a stalemate with the suns, is that dual RFA S&T, bledsoe-for-monroe, still completely far-fetched?? i'd give mini lebron the biggest contract in pistons history (what we "reportedly" offered moose) over monroe. he plays a position of major need and would potentially give us one of the most versatile backcourts in the league on both ends of the court.

Bledsoe isn't even an All-Star after like what, 4-5 years in the league. And, the team played just as well without him as they did with him. I like Bledsoe, but he ain't no $13 mil plus player. I am thinking he is worthy of about $10 mil per.

This Bledsoe stuff is ridiculous, he has serious history of injury, he is not a great shooter and he's a bad passer. He is an undersized SG that looks great in the phoenix system because he gets to play alongside a superior PG in Dragic. Asking Bledsoe to be a full time PG is asking for trouble.
