Brown averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 assists in 26 games with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, after the 6-foot-5 guard signed with the franchise as a released free agent.

Brown, 24, was the 52nd overall selection by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2013 NBA draft. He played three collegiate seasons at N.C. State.

He's a camp body and a Grand Rapids possibility, nothing more.

There is some gimmick where you sign players now to get them to your D-Leauge roster later.

When you average 2.5 ppg for the sixers, it's tough to get exited about...

The pistons are signing him to put him on the Grand Rapids team. Hopefully we can do this Bowles and at least have 2 decent prospects.

Honestly this guys is soooooo underrated, he just didn't get enough time in Philly, you give this kid minutes he's a viable Guard, if not a great guard. He's been a hidden gem of this league for a while, and now that he's on the pistons, he's finally going to have the opportunity to show what he can really do. I am truly excited for this signing, one of the underrated signings, he helps us get over that hump into contenders.

Does SVG know there's a limit to our roster spots??
How is this random guy getting a 1 year deal? I could understand a camp invite or GR signing, but it says 1yr deal with Detroit. I'm confused...

i think there's a deadline in which teams have to make cuts or owe the full amount of the contract. I believe its after or before Preseason. I maybe totally making this up, but i feel there's something to that effect

I don't think we have a completely full roster.

Yes, we have guaranteed contracts - but you can pay them to go away if you choose.

I'd like to think SVG has that much pull with Gores or has a 3-1 trade lined up :-)

Worst case scenario we're doing Brown (& his agent) a favour & he gets cut before the season begins

He more or less is a GR signing.

Interesting note from that article. He failed a physical preventing him from playing in Italy...not exactly reassuring that he couldn't pass a physical.

Has to be a non-guaranteed camp deal.

Detroit can't sign a player just to send him to their D-league team- they will still count against the 15 roster cap.

I understand that. But if you read that article, it suggests that they signed him basically with a handshake deal that he'll sign with GR after he gets cut from the NBA roster.

Does the handshake deal have him agreeing not to sign 10-day contracts with other orgs during the season? If we gave him a guaranteed contract, or partially guaranteed and then cut him - he's getting over and above the 440K NBADL Contract, so there should be more in it for the Pistons.
