The Stan Van Gundy Interview Thread

Stan really breaks it down and tells it like it is. Thus, you are all going to enjoy listening to his post game interviews. He didn't say any one liners which drop you down laughing as he usually does, but he will soon. I used to rush home from games to catch his post games because they are just that good.
He had some good things to say about Jennings, Moose and KCP, but also said that he has confidence in Butler and many other players.
Naturally, his main thing is always defense and he picks apart where they need to be more aggressive.
Enjoy.

I honestly don't remember the last time that I could look at the sidelines during a game and feel relieved to see our coach. SVG is da man!

I may try to keep this thread going while adding each and every post game interview if they are available as a reference to look back on as the season progresses.

For sure, Its like that with anyone in life. People or in this case players will walk all over you if you try to be Mr. Nice guy instead of calling it like it is. Hes definitely the kind of coach that will get respect and get what he wants out of his players which is something we haven't seen in a very long time.

It starts with the head coach, and we finally have a competent one.

i saw a lot that could be improved (mostly with Drummond, surprisingly) but man I have a ton of faith in SVG.
I expect us to be .500 this year but after that sky is truly the limit.

Enjoyed the last thirty seconds in particular (paraphrase)-- "KCP always brings tremendous energy and brought it again tonight, but he needs to play better defense. He fouls too much playing man defense on the perimeter."
Yup. Great athlete, great effort, but still plays too much with his hands and not enough with his feet.
I have a lot of confidence SVG is going to turn KCP into a very good player.

I do like that he talked about KCP. I could see KCP flourishing under SVG in a big way.

Thanks, Minas. He looked a bit tired there, but did give some relevant information. Solid 2nd half of that game.

"He's gotta be more consistent and we'll show him some film where we think he's giving away shots and not really balancing up," Van Gundy said. "Overall we're really happy. He's playing really hard."He's off balance. Brendan (Malone, assistant coach) and I both watched him work out several times this summer. When he balances up, he can shoot the ball, there's no question."
Aside from that, finishing better at the rim would help. Jennings shot 44.8 percent in the paint last season, which doesn't seem bad considering his diminutive frame. But Clippers guard Chris Paul shot 58.5 percent and Spurs guard Tony Parker shot 58.2 percent in the same area.
"We talked about it before practice," Van Gundy said. "We'll never sit him down (and say), 'That's a good shot, that's a bad shot,' to where he's not playing with confidence. I thought it was pretty easy to judge shot selection. All you have to do is look at his percentages. Good players take shots they can make."

Have not found the post game yet, the transcripts are here:
On Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s injury:
“I thought our guys bounced back and competed pretty well. They are concerned now, but I thought they hung in there pretty good. He has a knee sprain, we will reevaluate it going forward. We will get him an MRI and we will go from there.”
On Andre Drummond:
“I really loved the way he played the game early. I loved the energy he brought to the game. He’s becoming much more patient in the post, much more efficient. He also made that pass to Kyle (Singler) for the three. He’s just much more solid down there right now. I really, really like what he is doing. I thought early in the game, particularly, he was really good defensively too. As the game went on, he got tired, and he had a couple of bad fouls that he can prevent. We are nit-picking a little there. Overall, I thought he was very, very good, by far, the best he’s played this year including practice and scrimmages.”
On the combination of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe:
“It gives us a lot of size. We feel like we can overpower people down low. We should be able to rebound with those two guys too. We come out of that game where they play 63 combined minutes and we are minus 10 on the glass. That doesn’t sit well with me.”
On the game:
“Efficient from the floor. Not as much from the line. The free-throw shooting was really the deal in the game today. We got outrebounded by 10. We should not be a team getting outrebounded on the boards the way we are. I don’t like that. That’s probably the one thing I’m upset about. We cut our turnovers in the second half after a really sloppy first half.”
