SVG on Monroe/Drummond

SVG is not one to bs or mince words, here are excerpts from an MLive article where he shared his views on the Monroe/Drummond combo.
When Drummond and Monroe play together, with the latter at power forward, it could put "a little bit more premium on the guys around them on the perimeter having to be shooters, but other than that, they can play together effectively."
Van Gundy also said he thinks Monroe can be effective at two positions. The question always comes at power forward, when physical mismatches which benefit Monroe offensively often hamper him on defense.
"It always comes down to who can make the other guy pay more," Van Gundy said. "Do they make us pay more by spreading the floor out, or do we make them pay more because we can dominate the boards and throw it to Greg on the block? We'll see how that goes, but certainly on the offensive end, he's more than capable of playing both, and I think he's willing to work hard enough that he can get it done on the defensive end."
As SVG has repeatedly stated he sees Greg as a PF and a C. And, unlike his predecessors-SVG will punish teams with stretch forward by going to Monroe in the post. I am very confident in SVG and interested to see how the season plays out.

I also read into that that Stan Van Gundy doesn't see Monroe as an ideal fit and not worth a big money contract offer after this season, that he sees Monroe more as a Ce with some offensive range. Do you pay $14M a season to a guy who you have to pick and choose match-ups for? For that kind of money I think you need the type of player who you can play 100% in any situation, that other teams need to worry about matching up against.
Some team will sign themselves a good center next off-season, but I think we're better off using the Monroe earmarked money elsewhere just the same. It's too bad that Joe didn't trade Greg last season though, but can't do anything about that now.

I wouldn't mind paying Monroe big money (12-14M per) if the salary cap increases like its projected to.

If monroe never developes a jumper and more importantly,be able to guard starting pf"s,then you will be paying an avg pf max money. No thank you.If dre wasant here,I would love to keep him as our starting center, but since dre is here and monroe wants to be paid max money,it would be dumb of us to handcuff ourselfs to a max contract like monroes. We need to compliment dre with players that fit,not the other way around for monroe.

Monroe coming off the bench is perfect for him and the team. Provides instant scoring inside when needed which we don't have in the starting lineup

LOL, this is funny- we don't have it in the starting lineup because the only person who can provide it is on the bench! I doubt we feature a starting lineup that doesnt have 1 consistent scorer in it. Monroe is the only big that fits that bill.

I'll be interested to see how the rest of the preseason plays out, but I really don't think it has anything to do with having a consistent scorer in one spot or another. Monroe starting has huge downside because he's most likely leaving. We shouldn't be getting Drummond used to playing next to Monroe when that pairing won't be there next season. We aren't in a win now situation, so developing chemistry should be a huge priority.

You really do love Monroe. SVG also talks about playing Smith at SF... Take it for what it's worth.
