Preseason Game 4: Detroit v. Charlotte

SVG has announced that he's starting Smith/Monroe/Drummond. With Meek and KCP out, we should expect to see more of this lineup than initially expected. This is less than ideal but perhaps SVG can get more out of this trio than his predecessors.

SVG has yet to announce the starting backcourt but I'm hoping its Jennings/Martin.

Ugh, I feel like Smith/Monroe/Drummond makes it even more critical we start shooters in the backcourt and that definitely is NOT Jennings.

Should be better than last season simply because of Stan, but still cringe worthy.

Charlotte seems to be a good aiming point for us this year. I'm hoping they regress a bit but most of their roster is pretty young with addition of Stevenson will be a good fight I think.

11am start time which is BS, but whatever it's preseason and we basically have no starting caliber SG. Could get ugly, but hell who knows..

Yea Charlotte is definitely better right now...but come on not by miles..they've had one year of success..this isn't CHI IND MIA ETC.

I'd rather just play Smith at the four in hopes of enticing another team to making a solid trade offer for him or something. Playing him out of position just reminds teams how crud he was. Though I guess if Stan and Co. have some offensive sets drawn up for the trio that are effective, it could illustrate that last season was a complete gongshow and maybe everything from that dreadful season should be taken with a grain of salt.

KL recently wrote about how Stan was going to start all 3, and this was before Meeks and KCP got injured.

Personally I don't see the downside, especially now that we're not going to have any SGs. Considering that the big 3 are our best 3 players it's best to see if there is any way that they can be somewhat effective. The whole point of preseason is to experiment, it's better for him to try new things now and figure out the best way forward than to sacrifice meaningful games in the regular season.

Enough with this whole Josh Smith thing, it's crystal clear Monroe/Drummond are the starting front line moving forward.

Josh can't shoot & is beyond awful on d at the 3. His mins should be solely at the backup 4.

I'm excited to see our big 3 in the starting line-up again. If played correctly I always thought it could work.

Now that our 2-guard position is thin, I wonder if SVG would have any interest in Jordan Crawford.

What is your definition of them being played correctly?

Do you envision all three of them crowding within 15 feet of the basket where they are effective?
( In which case it clogs the paint and is easily defended)

Do you envision Smith taking outside shots?
( He has done this his entire career save for one season and has been awful)

Do you somehow envision Monroe or Dre playing somewhere on the outside?
(This makes zero sense since neither has any sort of game outside of 15 feet).

I'm inferring from your statement that you don't believe they were played correctly last year. I actually agree with this: Playing them correctly is having one of them on the bench at all times.

It looks like we won't be doing this this year :banghead:

According to the Pistons Facebook, it's not. I don't know if there will be some sort of feed that can be watched on league pass or online streaming though
