That projection could be argued legitimately. But the substance provided by the contributors of that article is just plain stupid.

We certainly COULD finish 11th, but it'll take injuries for us (off to a bad start w/ Meeks) and lack of injuries for our competitors for the 6th-11th spots. That's our range.

I'll go with 8th at 41-41. The East is still gonna get housed by the West, so .500 should be playoffs.

Last year this system overprojected us because it couldn't take into account how the coach would mishandle the team.

This year, they're taking into account all of that data from how terrible the team was last year, and again it can't take into account the coaching, so it's underprojecting us.

By home much is the question-barring injuries or a really spectacular meltdown by Smith/Monroe/Jennings over tension with SVG, I don't think that we'll have 33 wins. I would expect us to stay in the sub-40 area, but more like 36ish wins.

I'm pretty comfortable in saying that we will finish with a better record than that barring any major injuries.

I over projected us last season so I'm not going to be too critical. I think we have the potential to be a .500 club... But we do still have some major flaws and more than a few question marks. The continued development of Dre and KCP, along with Moose playing for a contract should help, as should having shooters such as Meeks (once hes back). And of course a real coach in place of the life sized decoy we've been trotting out the past few years.

But Jennings/Smith are still on the roster which kinda taints everything else. Does Monroe try to "get his"? Will Smith become a locker room cancer if asked to be Lamar Odom? Can our guards at least force the guys blowing by them towards the help defense, and will our bigs learn to rotate?

Anyway, who really cares? Detroit has never been the sexy pick. **** em.

All the nonsense, whether it be hype or pessimism, aside. This TEAM will go as far as Stan Van Gundy can coach it. That's it in simplest form.

amazing the improvement already in preseason with SVG as coach, the spacing, defense, and rebounding are all much better

Honestly, I see no eastern teams in their top 10 that we are clearly better than.

So I have no idea why people would be shocked/dismayed/scornful/amused by this prediction.

Its a pretty reasonable one. The "Pistons get no respect" montra kinda feels hollow after 6 straight losing seasons, including 4 straight seasons of 30 wins or less.

No way dude. AND i saw that on ESPN too. I couldnt believe we were placed 11. Like they haveny been paying attention to the pre-season. We are WAY BETTER BASEKTBALL TEAM

at least 40 wins this year and 5-6 seed

I don't really care, we could obviously be 11th worst, but the content of this **** was hilarious. Drummond coming off the bench. Pure gold.

This is spot on.

There is still a ton of uncertainty with this ballclub -- even moreso than last offseason. We're going to be thin at outside shooting again (thanks partly due to injury) and we are almost forced into playing people out of position again.

SVG will come up with a better defensive scheme which should help but we have yet to see how much certain players will buy into the system.

The locker room wasn't great last year and the reported problem areas are still there. We also have a guy in Monroe who is 9/10ths already out the door. How motivated he plays and how the prospect of him leaving wears on his teammates is anyone's guess.

Bottom line is that we have proved nothing in terms of being a good ballclub on the court. Until we do for a sustained period then we should deservedly be ranked below those who have. And that's exactly where we are.
