Story: C's eye roster flexibility as near swap to send Joel Anthony to Detroit for Will Bynum:
http://es.pn/1zeZBOk
Anthony is a PF/C, so I assume this means Gray is out for awhile and Thabeet didn't impress enough to earn a spot. Also Mitchell is surely the cut at this point.
Detroit is taking on an extra $900,000 in this swap, so eats into the $3M in cap space we had with the Moose QO.
Jennings|Augustin|Dinwiddie
KCP|Meeks|Martin
Singler|Butler|Datome
Monroe|Smith|Jerebko
Drummond|Anthony|Gray

Anthony never really impressed me, but I guess he does come from a winning culture with all those years in Miami, including the few with the Big Three. He's a role player who accepts that fact and does what is asked.
Our roster is near the tipping point - Stan has brought in seven new faces out of the fifteen rostered.
Newbies - Meeks(LAL), Augustin(CHI), Anthony(Mia/Bos), Martin(ATL), Gray(Sac), Butler(OKC), Dinwiddie
Returnees - Jennings, KCP, Singler, Drummond, Monroe, Jerebko, Singler, Datome, Mitchell(to be cut?)

Ill be happy just to get Bynum off the team. It leaves us a little thin at the point, but at least ill never have to watch that guy play basketball for the Pistons again. Anthonys nothing special, but he gives us a pretty good defensive big to help hold down the fort when our other guys get in foul trouble. Hes supposed to be strong defending the pick and roll which was an achilles heel for us last year. I dont think its a bad deal.

If anything this kind of affirms that SVG believes that Dinwiddie will be able to play a role this season as our 3rd PG, which is good news. It also looks like Gray may be out for a while too.

This is promising. SVG said Bynum was 97% behind the other guards and was unlikely to see the floor ahead of them anytime soon. Anthony is an undersized big who excels in his one role dirtywork. He understands how to defend his position and how to stay mentally engaged...two things that Drum seems to lack at times.
When Drum drifts, SVG can now pull him for a credible rim protector.

This was supposed to be Thabeets role (defense only)... the guy is even a bigger slug than we thought

Thabeet sucks. He isnt an NBA caliber player.
I never liked Bynum so I'm glad he's out. We dont need any nonshooters in the backcourt

I like it. I never liked will bynum and now Dinwiddie can get the 3rd pg spot along with playing some sg also.

Although I respected what he's done, I've had a huge dislike of SVG especially after he made some comments about Detroit a couple of years back. But this man has done what I've been waiting for, for the last 5 or so years....TRADED WILL BYNUM! I'M A BELIEVER SVG, I'M A BELIEVER! Love this man...

Wonder if Stan trading Bynum is sending a message to the team?

This makes Moose the longest tenured Piston?

Idk maybe...what's the message? New regime? Extreme total makeover? Fall behind your behind is gone?

I think it's Jerebko.

Are people really expecting Joel Anthony to be a contributor for us?
We needed another big body, Bynum wasn't a part of SVG's plans now or in the future, it's a classic trash for trash deal.

Joel Anthony is an end of the bench big who will probably see some time at center in the games Monroe is suspended for, and later in the year when one of our primary bigs isn't playing.
I don't see him getting significant minutes.

I like this move and agree with posters who have already said that this means Thabeet and Mitchell are goners. SVG flat out said he was trying them out for a back-up role in the wake of Gray's medical condition, and this trade signals that he didn't see either of them stepping up.
Getting Will off the roster helps clear up the logjam at PG, gives him a chance to get some burn elsewhere during a contract year, and allows us to bring in a defense first backup center to help with Drummond's development. It also gives backing to the rumors that Dinwiddie is a lot closer to seeing the court than most expected, as dVs pointed out.
Finally, we're swapping expiring contracts, so Joel can still be moved later in the season and we're not locked in to keeping him past this year.

I think everyone is on the same page about that, it's just that their trash fits better on our team and vice versa. Will was just going to rot on the bench here during his contract year, and we had a need, so it's good for everyone involved that we moved on.
Mostly, folks are excited to see our organization making minor, common sense trades again.
