It's not Bynum's fault that the roster was so terrible that he was asked to play a much bigger role than he should have. He should've been a 10mpg back-up that only got more time than that if he was hot. Instead he was asked to be the primary back-up. He had some monster games for us but the bad out weighed the good. That's the fault of the rosters and coaching staffs Dumars gave the Pistons though. Hope he finds a spot on a team that can bench him when he sucks and play him when he's on.

I'm not going to dog on him. He seemed to be a very capable backup scorer, sort of Vinnie Johnson lite. But time to move on. Glad he is getting released by Boston, hope he catches on as a backup for a good team.

The guy was frustrating, but he had some nice games for us.

The mutiny game, where he played the full 48 minutes.

The 20 assist game.

A couple games where he just exploded scoring for us.

And of course, the last two years with Andre he was an ally-oop machine for him.

I liked Bynum a lot, and I hope that he gets a job somewhere else in the NBA. I don't know if I'll miss him, but he was the longest tenured Piston and he was a high-effort guy for us. Happy trails, Will Bynum.

The only time i truly enjoyed bynum was that 2-3 week period where he was leadign the 2nd unit with dre and a bunch of shooters. He was absolutely masterful with his decision making, and he even revived CV's career for a short period. If will bynum could shoot the basketball, he'd probably be a top 10-25 pg in this league for a 2-3 year period of his prime. He's pretty much a poor mans dj augustine

One great memory I have of Will is when he led a huge comeback against the Hawks in the '13 season. I remember we were down big in the last quarter (I think it around 15), so the bench was in the game and they somehow got us back in it and forced double OT. Frank had the bench play out the rest of the game and it was a lot of fun to watch.

The fact that the great memory I have was a loss sums up this era of Pistons basketball

To be honest, I was with pistonr at the time. Knight had no ability to run the point- even making basic plays was a struggle for him, he simply didn't have the passing instincts. Stuckey also couldn't run the point awfully well. Both of those guys were clearly better off at SG than PG. Bynum was the only guy on the team who looked like a natural running the point, who actually had some court vision, instincts, and decision making, even if he wasn't exactly a maestro. It was really frustrating to watch either of those guys try and orchestrate the offense. Will Bynum actually showed some ability to do it, especially during that bench mob run with Dre/CV/Daye.

I remember that game too, losing it in double OT was a soul-crusher. I felt like it really hurt the guys down there to lose that one.

Wishing Will the Thrill the Best! A big fan here. Despite his shortcomings, you could never question his heart and belief in himself. At times, he was the most productive player on the team and a joy to watch. I'm hoping he lands with a contender and I'm able to watch him in the post season.

You could never tell how bad or dysfunctional are team was by Will Bynum's effort. Guy had more heart than our entire team combined sans KCP.

He has the mentality of a bulldog. He'd put his head down and aim for the basket, not stopping until he got there. Most of the time it was frustrating to watch, but when he was hot, he was a blast to see.

Gotta be honest though, I'm glad I won't have to hear Rick Mahorn do his stupid "Bynumite" line every 12 seconds that he was on the floor during the radio broadcasts.

When i watched him, he played with so much effort and passion, unlike a few of the Piston players. I will always like that about Bynum.

I always liked Bynum.
He played with a ton of energy, heart and confidence.
I'll always remember a couple dunks he threw down on Charlotte Hornets like 5 years ago.
1 over Chandler and a block and then he ran back for the dunk.
I haven't kept up on the Pistons as much in the last few years.
I guess SVG must have better PG's in the lineup.
That means the team is getting better.
I wish him well wherever he ends up.

Maybe I can qualify this statement and you tell if its consistent with your thinking? He was more effective at driving the lane than Stuckey. And unlike Stuckey, he was professional - he didn't pout and intentionally disappear on the team. As for Knight, Bynum was better at running the pick and roll than Knight and was more proficient at throwing the lob.

Is that what you had in mind pistontr?

I'll miss Bynum lighting up the Heat consistently since he's so fast during the Lebron years.

Good guy, hope he catches on a decent team.

Happy trails, hope he catches on with a contender after all the BS he put up with here.

Also he had one of the best nicknames in the league, Will the Thrill Bynumite, loved it.

I liked Will Bynum the person much more than the player. He's such a grounded hard working guy that I always liked him despite his playing style.
I hope he gets a spot somewhere. He definitely deserves to be in the league.

I always thought that if he had a jump shot he could have been something like Tim Hardaway. That did overlook some of Bynum's shortcomings as a point guard, but his ability to get by defenders has awed me (and that is without the threat of a jump shot). But there are many players who are a jump shot short of greatness.
