PREDICT PISTONS RECORD 2015 (2014/2015 season)

Post#1 » by vic » Sun Oct 26, 2014 6:28 pm

48-50 wins if Monroe is starter

44-46 wins if Smith is starter

The Pistons had the talent to do damage last year, but they had inept coaching. Last years lesson was that Coaching matters. From the training camp and preseason we can see that SVG has changed things and they are playing much better, harder, and more organized. There is a perfect storm of improvement factors that I think will add wins to the record and pretty much set the Pistons to #4 in the East:

5 WINS - Young Player natural growth: Drummond, KCP, Jenning, Monroe, Singler... all under 25, havent even reached their peak yet. Natural physical growth and mental intelligence and focus that grows in your mid-twenties will have them playing better.

5 WINS - An Actual Coach: Strategic and a Great Communicator... SVG has a winning record in all his years of coaching. This isn't going to change, since winners win, and he wouldn't have taken the job if he thought he was going to lose.

5 WINS - Shooting: Last year it was just Singler. This year its Martin, Butler, Singler, KCP, Augustin, Jerebko. This will space out the paint for the BIGS and space out the lane for the PGs.

5 WINS - WiNG DEFENSE: defense is over half the game and a lot of people don't reallize that without KCP or Stuckey there was actually NO wing defense on the Pistons last year. (Stuckey & KCP would have been a dominant 1-2 punch but Mo Cheeks shut that down after they dominated Memphis). This year with a real coach playing KCP and Martin, there are actual wing defenders the 2 and the 3. Jennings seems to actually be trying to care this year as well. THIS IS HUGE, because an actual coach that wants to win is going to give minutes to his defenders on the wing when it counts.

All these factors are huge and together they will create an effect where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I expect great improvements to Pistons bball.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

37 wins, though we'll agree to disagree on that being "competing".

I GUESS we have an outside chance of approaching .500 ball and thus sneaking into the playoffs, but I don;'t expect us to compete once we get there.

39 wins and possibly sneak into the playoffs as the 8th seed

Best case 46 wins defeat opponent in the first round and then take either cleveland or chicago to 6 games

I want to believe we'll be over .500, but I couldn't honestly select anything better than 35-41 wins.

The safest answer is 30-35, but I'm going with 41-43

i thought last year with a better coach, true shooting guards who can score around the perimeter, and a upgraded bench this team would be top 5 in the nba if they addressed all that.

man top 5 team we are right when everyone is healthy

im predicting 50>> wins meeks or no meeks

37-39 wins

I can easily see a season with 41-45 wins if things go right (Wizards last season) The biggest factor is SVG coaching. The coach is the chess player and it makes a whole lot of difference when you know how to coach the game at an elite level.

By 2015 do you mean this season or the following season?

Going to sip some kool aid and "predict" 42 wins.

I think this team will improve as the season progresses and they get more reps with the SVG system.

I'm hoping we can be what the Bobcats were last season- they're proof of what a coaching change can do. (Plus Big Al).

Around 41-43
I think we can be better than a lot of the good teams in the east right now.

The East is much better than most people imagine it will require a 42 win season or better to get 8th spot.
Unless teams have catastrophic injuries Cleveland, Chicago, Toronto, Washington, Miami, Atlanta and Charlotte are shoe ins for the playoffs. Detroit, Knicks, Brooklyn & Indy will fight for 8th.

I wouldnt say shoe ins, I think Cavs, Bulls and Raps are the best in the East and could end up in no particular order at season end. But I still dont view Washington and Charlotte as some guaranteed anything like most. I wouldnt even be shocked to see either one miss the playoffs. But yeah its going to be alot tougher this year and we will more then likely be battling for the 8th seed with the Nets, Knicks or Hornets.

The East is much better than people assess it to be. That being said, there are two teams that are definitely in the playoffs: Cleveland and Chicago. After those two, it's a battle seven team battle for the last six spots. With a better coach, a better system, a better environment, a better fit to our personnel we will be a problem.

I put us in the 43 win range with the potential to climb higher. The issue will be how fast we get out the gate.

You aren't the only one I put 49 on record but I'm actually being conservative with that. I think they can get above 50 too easy, with the depth and coaching they have.

To me the biggest swing factor other than Monroe/Smith is the combined minutes of KCp + Martin

Those two are the only 2 perimeter defenders and the more minutes they play the closer the Pistons will get to 50 wins. If they combine for 48 + minutes a game I can't see any less than 50 wins
