A talk from coach Vic

1. You guys defended okay, a the little better than okay. But one thing you failed to do was rebound! If you don't rebound you have not completed the defensive possession!

Josh, Andre: you have to box out! When you depend on your athleticism to rebound… This is what happens when there's somebody more athletic than you! Kenneth Faried jumps all over you for 17 rebounds

2. Live by the jumpshot, died by the jumpshot. Jumpstart so nice when they're falling in but they always regress to the average.

The ball movement we had in the preseason was killed by quick jump shots. Who are the culprits? Josh Smith Caldwell pope.

There's three ways to establish a half-court offense: pass around the perimeter, drive and kick, postup.

When you saw that messing around the perimeter wasn't working, why did you start driving to the whole KCP, Josh? Jennings? DJ got it going a little bit but then They put the clamps on him with a bigger defender.

When we're missing our only low post not send Greg Monroe, jump shots are a way to lose the game. You guys got to start getting by your man and getting into the paint, Period.

3. Overall, no panic. Let's try to correct our mistakes, get a win tonight. Moose will be back soon so we can actually run what looks like a good offense. It will be okay.

Any other coaches have anything to say?

On Josh Smith:

Faried said he shot them out of the game
Coach Shaw said they don't close out on Josh because they can live with his percentages.

the other team is explaining their game plan, yet some people continue to defend him. That is beyOnd dumb. It's deaf and blind.

Smith and Monroe are equally poor jumpshooters at this point, unless Monroe improved his shot this offseason.

the difference is that Monroe chooses not to waste possessions with those shots. Smith does. Thats how games are lost.

Yeah, Smith takes too many shots and only shot 40.9%, but the Pistons as a team shot 36.9% and Denver as a team shot 35.3%, so putting this loss on Smith's crap shooting, is weak imo.

I am not sure KCP or Smith have the game to consistently penetrate or post up guys like Afflalo and Faried. With matchups like that we need our PG to break down the defense and Dre/Moose (when he's active) to dominate inside.

I don't think Smith lost us the game last night by any means. Dre needs to play with more heart and energy and has to stay out of foul trouble. KCP has to shot better than 3/15. Butler with 22 mins, and no points. We need to be better offensively, and we will when Moose returns.

Jennings filled his role nicely yesterday by warming the bench as Augustine kept us in the game. And i've said it before but i'll say it again: Josh Smith should not be shooting any threes unless it's at the end of the quarter or shot clock.

If you don't think Smith is capable of posting up Faried, then he won't be capable of posting up against any PF all season long. Faried isn't some stellar defender.

I am not sure what Smith can bring offensively, so that may be true, although Faried has made big improvements to his game over the past year.

My main point was that I didn't like the Nuggets talking trash about Smith, when he shot a higher percentage than their team as a whole.

Hopefully Smith/Dre can dominate inside tonight.

The Nuggets singled out Smith because he was the only legit offensive option they had to worry about.

He launched 21 shots, hit 9 - you can say he shot us out of the game but without him in the first quarter we get blown off the court.

You can't win with 2 scorers. It's that simple. As usual people will blame whomever they choose
