Datome's playing time

Besides the fact that he's currently injured, as an Italian I just wanted to know why Svg doesn't give him a chance to play. I believe that in franchises such as San Antonio or Chicago he can easily earn a good spot in the title running. What do you think?

Barring injury he's buried on the depth charts in both positions he could possibly play for one - Singler, Butler, Martin at SF with Smith starting there against bigger SF's, and at PF he's behind Monroe, Smith and Jerebko. He is hurt right now though to be fair and was in line to get some minutes in the recent games when his hammy acted up. But I think he should probably request a release and go back to Euroball to get playing time and then try and come over again next off-season or in a couple years, finding a better situation. If he plans to play in the NBA next year he needs to play this year to show what he can offer and he's not going to likely get minutes here. Maybe he could request a D-League stint or something later in the year if he's still buried on our bench.

Yeah, he was brought in to be a shooter and when he got some minutes he couldn't really hit much. So he ended up getting buried on the depth chart..

When he gets healthy and if he shows something in practice, maybe SVG will try to squeeze him in to see what he's got. He's got nothing to lose, so it's just a matter of time. I think you kind of answered your own question with the health bit :P.

lol, your now at least the 3-4 italian poster that tries to blame the team or system for the reason why Datome isn't getting playing time. However, truth is, he hasn't produced in the limited time he's played (18% from the 3), and he doesn't play sound D. He maybe a MVP in Europe, however he has left much to be desired in the nba

Dude can't hit a shot. Just a lack of athleticism I would have to guess. Looks at the rim aren't the same and the defenders are coming faster.

i think this is what was so surprising. when we signed him he was touted as being atheltic shooter. He hsan't shot well and he sure as hell isn't that athletic

I thought SVG had mentioned that he was going to give Gigi a few minutes, but then he got injured??
Maybe it was the reporters asking him about it. Either way, gigi hasn't shown much when given minutes and now he's injured.
I would like to see him get a few more minutes to see what he can do now that SVG is coaching.

The couple times I saw Gigi on the court in warmups, he SEEMED to be the best shooter out there.

Of course, we're talking about practice. Not the game.
