He is still a raw working project. He isn't playing at last seasons level, but will get better as the season moves on.

Re: Andre Drummond 2014-2015
Just wait for Maker 84's comments.
I'll admitt that he hasn't looked as good as last year so far this year. There are still a lot of concerns, even if he was playing at that level, like his FT shooting. Just relax though, he's a young big man who is definitely struggling right now. He'll get through it. If he looks the same at Christmas, the All-Star break, and the end of the year ... if he doesn't improve at all, then I think we should be concerned.

He seems to think there was a rule change in the off-season that banned dunking or something...

Re: Andre Drummond 2014-2015
He's being developed for the first time in his career, as a back to the basket player. His skills HAVE dramatically improved - but it'll take time in the heat of the NBA battles, for the game to slow down for him. If SVG didn't put him in this spot, Drummond would never have a chance to develop into the all-around star we're hoping he'll become - and he plainly has the talent to achieve that status.
This one-step back is necessary. I'm glad SVG is forcing the issue.
Wait until mid-season before deciding Drummond's failing.

Lmao.
I do have a huge problem with how he acts on offense, especially when he has great deep position. I remember like Shaq just turning and **** dunking on people. Drummond goes up for rebounds and he's way over the basket, higher than anyone else. His vertical doing that is insane. When he's around the hoop with the ball though, it feels like he barely gets off the ground and tries to quickly shoot the ball... in more recent history, I desperately want to see some Deandre Jordan-like posterizations. Would be nice to see more lobs to him like last year as well.

Do you think he's like forced away easy buckets like the lob passes in order to give him more opportunities to work with his back to the basket? Does this make sense?
I agree his skills have improved and at times he has gone through the up and under footwork similar to what Monroe uses a lot. I feel like his speed his a big asset that can be used to spin around people too. But like Kilo, I don't know why he doesn't just make the move quickly and then get in position to dunk.

Re: Andre Drummond 2014-2015
part of me wants to trade him while his value is very high, but a greater part of me wants to be patient with the kid. still 21 and very raw. needs to gain composure on offense, and not overthink on defense. needs a big man coach and a vet to learn from, and more importantly, time to develop.

[Tweet] Andre Drummond ranks 116/121 for qualifiers in eFG% at 42.0. Kawhi is 120 at 40.4. Both guys were top 7 eFG% last season (AD #2, Kawhi #7).[/Tweet]
Its painful to watch Drummond this season. He is trying way to many post up plays in my opinion. He needs to do less on offense and focus on defense.

Re: Andre Drummond 2014-2015
Andre Drummond was overhyped by this board as our savior. His overrating has gotten worse since we hired SVG because of the unfair Dwight comparisons and the revisionist history that SVG was responsible for Dwightss offensive game. To be clear, Dwight was significantly better than Drummond was when SVG went to ORL. SVG did help Dwight with his post game but it was nowhere near as raw as Andre's is and Howard began training with Hakeem the offseason after SVG first became coach which also helped Dwight's game. Drummond is nowhere near 3rd year Dwights level on offense or defense. The idea that we should build around Drummond right now the way that SVG built around Howard who was already an all star and lead his team to the playoffs is laughable. We have to be patient with Andre before heralding him as this teams savior when he's arguable not even amongst our top performers.
Yes, Andre has made some modest improvements on offense and probably needs a post up or two on offense to help him develop his game. But, to be honest, he is taking too many shots, 42% FG for a center is an embarrassment- he just may be the worst offensive center in the game and I doubt that he will ever be a gifted post scorer. To be honest, I think that we need to reduce his post up attempts and get him more alley oops and get him more active offense boards so he can get put backs. I know we need to develop his post game more but he's getting too many attempts and the fact that he rarely if ever passes out of the block, instead choosing to hoist an airball is mind boggling.
Andre is still so young and is a freak athletically but he has very little skills at this point and it will take years for him to be close to the guy that people want him to be. Right now Andre is a complimentary player, closer to Deandre Jordan than anything

Re: Andre Drummond 2014-2015
He's being asked to do a lot more than he's had to do in the past.
Everyone has such high expectations for the guy because he's super athletic, but his fundamentals have always left a lot to be desired.
SVG will be great for him in the long run. He'll look like a different player by the end of the season.

Dwight did have Ewing as an assistant coach in Orlando. When I would get to games early, Dwight and Ewing would be out there practicing by themselves.

Yeah that makes sense. ....................
EXCEPT.......she made those comments on March 3rd dude. After which Dre put up 12.5 pts & 12.5 rebounds in March and 18.4 pts and 17.4 rebounds in April. Yeah, he seemed crushed. I feel dirty even having dignified that theory with a response.

Wow, I actually agree with POP lol. But anyways, I never understood why comparing Drummond to Jordan was such a bad thing, wasn't he top three in rebounds, blocks and FG% last year?

Not quite sure what to make of what we've seen of Andre. Either he's been asked to do too much and his ceiling isn't nearly as high as we thought.
Or, he's just going to take a long to put it together.

Very good post. I'll wait longer than a season too. If by next year he's developed a back to the basket game, we'll all be happy.
