Just start Butler!

Play the guy 18minutes a game. First 6 of 1st and 3rd and last 3 of 2nd and 4th. Have Smith or Monroe come off the damn bench.
Singler can play 18 and then Smith or JJ play the other 12.
Goddddddd....would balance us out

Doesn't matter if we start him he already plays 25+ min a game.

JJ at 16 min and Singler at 22 min.

If Dre can stay out of foul trouble maybe smith could play less thats all I can think of.

I understand the new system arguement for dre,but it boggles my mind that he has been picking up fouls left and right.

I feel like Butler was a wonderful addition to this team. His 3pt shooting has been a nice boost and he brings legit veteran leadership. He's playing 26 MPG, which is (maybe) a bit high, but he is our best small forward on the roster.

I wouldn't mind him starting, but I think it would mean that Monroe would be headed to the bench again.. so you're benching the best/most consistent offensive weapon and even though it helps withat balance, it's not a good look. So, I think I'm fine with it going the way it is. Our starters should dominate the paint.. then we're bringing in snipers, it's a huge change of offensive ability. If Drummond could get his **** together and Martin get healthy, he could get time with a lineup featuring: Jerebko/Butler/Martin or Singler/Augustin.. which means that anything involving the SG/SF/PF could basically be switched on defense.
Like what was said, the rotations might make more sense when Drummond stops getting rammed by refs and Meeks returns. :P

Sometimes it's like refs have keyed on him when attacking the offensive glass too :/. It feels like he's picked up quite a few that way.

Loved butler when he was ballin w/ the wizards but man he should not be getting 30 min a game. We should start him but he should only play 20-25 min.

I'm telling you guys. The only way to get rid of Josh smith is to find out where smith lives and take car of it ourselves!!!! #OffWithSmith

Butler should be starting, he's been our best wing player.

This is where I hate how league politics take places. Your salary gives players some kind of entitled status. Smith starts because he's making $13+ million a season, not because he deserves to.

Yup he would be better in a 6th man role. We get better spacing to start games off. Plus I'm sick of svg trying to post smith/moroe when that makes it easier for teams to double them because they both can't shoot for $hit.

Micromanaging role players minutes starting vs finishing is totally moot. We are the 2nd worst team in the NBA. We need 3-4 new starters, a 6th man.

Butler, however i don't think butler could log that many minutes. It would be interesting to start him and see if at least seeing a true SF would hlep the spacing.

The real reason why butler isn't starting is because SVG doesn't want smith to come off the bench. I agree with Pop , its mind boggling how we are almost running our offfense at times thru smith

I'd start anyone ahead of Josh Smith at SF including mercury, mus123, Blkbrd671, pistonstr, srt4b, ImHeisenberg, mercury, RasheedTupac, Ghost, kurtis48239, mattao313 and Canadafan because none of you guys would lead the Pistons in minutes played and shot attempts. That alone would improve the Pistons, but yeah Butler would probably be the best choice right now. It just shows how awful our quality at the wing position is when a 34 year old Butler is your best option.

Smith is not a SF.

Or a good basketball player for that matter.
