Stan Van Gundy and Larry Brown spoke recently

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Fri Dec 12, 2014 6:00 pm

Van Gundy said he called Brown about a week ago.

"I've talked to Stan," Brown said on Frank Isola's and Mitch Lawrence's morning show. "He reached out to me a while ago. I admire him. I think he's a hell of a coach. I told him, 'Look, you're the coach, general manager, president, all the people on your staff love you and care about you. You've had success before. Just do what you do.' It's a process."

Not a bad article.

I don't get channel 86 on my Sirius radio, I'll have to make a call :|. I've been listening to Mad Dog for their morning show which is hilarious, but if I could here straight NBA that'd be great!

Van Gundy said Brown's central message was to adhere to your core principles and don't change them.

"He goes, 'It's hard to keep from doubting what you're doing, I used to beat myself up all the time, but you've got to stick to what you believe in, and how you think the game should be played, and stay with it.' It was a good thing to hear," Van Gundy said.

This is a better piece of information. I like to hear this.

Hopefully SVG keeps his confidence. He is the leader so if he is second guessing himself it's gonna be even worse. I'm confident once SVG replaces guys like Jennings and Smith with quality starters we will be on the way up. SVG should try and trade one of those guys this season and the other during the offseason, or ideally both today. Adding a top 5 pick and dumping the dead weight will go a long way for us. This team won't go through the ever so elusive "culture change" until that happens.

SVG has a good philosophy on both ends of the floor. He just needs to realize, if he doesn't already, that the problem is too much inconsistent youth and negative value veterans. Once he gets a solid roster that has room to grow his basketball philosophies will just continue to reap the rewards year after year. I honestly believe one of our biggest problems over the years has been the constant switching of coaches, and by that I mean, not the coach themselves, but the familiarity and experience with their systems. I believe one of the reasons teams like the Spurs have been so good is because they know Pops system like the back of their hands. I want that to happen with SVG and the young players on this team.

The Joe Dumars gift that keeps on giving. It really is going to take the next few years to undo the damage of the last 5 or 6. I still trust SVG and the process, plus I like having a coach/Pres tandem anyways, it makes so much sense if you think about it.

If Stan Van is so fragile that he needs positive reinforcement already than we're in a world of hurt for the foreseeable future.

He's likely looking for new ways to bark at a brick wall.

Agreed...and I doubt SVG reached out to LB in a "crisis of faith" moment

LB is a great coach and has strong principles. So does SVG. The convo likely involved more than just "WTF should I do?"

Stay the course, trust your principles, follow the process, put the work in...and you'll get there!

It ain't rocket science

Going to take a while, we aren't winning with Josh Smith so we have 3 more years until we can even begin to slowly improve. Monroe is gone & Drum leaving is now a real possibility too unless there is significant shift in how things run.

I believe Drummond wants to be The Man...in order to get to that destination he's gonna need to develop all aspects of his game.

SVG is starting the process that should have begun 2 years ago!

Even when there is a light at the end of the tunnel its still pretty dark inside it. Most of my career I have been asked to turn businesses from losers to winners. Everyone can buy low and sell high but turning around that loser into a winner takes a special talent. Anyone can buy a McDonalds or open a gas station on the side of the interstate.

"They have a terrific young center (Drummond), their power forward's a center (Monroe), their small forward's a power forward (Smith), their shooting guard's a scorer that doesn't make plays for others (Kentavious Caldwell-Pope), and I think they've got a young point guard (Brandon Jennings) that, when Scott (Skiles) coached him (in Milwaukee), he did a lot of good things," Brown said. "I don't think it's a fit right now. But he'll get it done. He's a great coach."
Sorry for my poor english
