Per Freepress- Smith only player being shopped

Per the FreePress, Pistons have yet to shop Monroe, nor is he willing to go just anywhere. The FreePress is reporting that Josh Smith is the only Piston who has seriously been included in trade talks but teams are weary of him.

But Van Gundy has said that "everything's on the table," and he has said that he will take a long look at the roster when the team is off for four days next week. You also have to wonder if a team would give up assets for Monroe only to lose him to free agency this summer.

At this point, Smith is the only player the team (5-20) has seriously discussed trading. But even that is just preliminary; teams are scared off by Smith's price tag and the evidence that he's a declining player.

WOJ has said that Detroit is one of the most active players in trade discussions so I am hoping that Smith is being shopped hard and a taker is soon found

Good luck with that. Honestly im Sure Stan is pretty much shopping everyone on the roster not named Drummond. Hes not going to admit if hes been talking Monroe or even Smith deals publicly anyways, So we probably wont know much until it happens if we can even make a deal that is.

If he's the only one being shopped then he's not doing his job... then again if you're another GM who would you even consider besides Dre

It's all politics until something goes down. Everyone should be on the table in some capacity.

That article i believe came out after our 11th or 12 th loss, also the "discussion of smith" could be referring to the summer offers, as he was the main target of discussions per reports during the summer. I saw another report indicating teams want a first for smith, and detroits not budging, nor should we

Only hope I see right now is Brooklyn and only then if we took on Deron Williams' contract and that thing is a monstrosity. Too many analytics types taking over front offices now - it's like Dumars was the last dinosaur and we're gonna be paying for it for the next two and a half seasons.

Nah, I don't see us trading any of the big 3. Maybe we'll trade for another guard.

Not trading Monroe because he has all the power & teams know that.

& not trading Josh because he has next to no value on the open market.

Here's the trick. To give away garbage, you have to take back garbage too. I think there'll be two trades before the trade deadline.

Goodwill saying the same thing- Monroe unlikely to be moved but SMith is being shopped. Both POR and ATL tried to trade for Greg last offseason, not sure what ATL was offering but SVG countered with Monroe for Teague/Korver which was declined.

Can't say I'm all to impressed with SVG the executive at this point, they didn't think Greg would really sign the QO and it backfired. Now we will lose Monroe for nothing. Goodwill says that trading SMith and starting Monroe/Drummond is the only way Greg could consider staying a Piston.

Do you have a link? We absolutely would have accepted a deal for either of those guys alone.

Teams weren't going to offer a lot for Monroe during the summer when they figure they can get him for nothing next summer. This place would riot if Monroe got traded for "bench" players.

ATL did not offer that package- that is what SVG countered with. You can read Goodwills article in the Detroit news.

I understand ATL didn't offer that, but if there had been any offer anywhere near the ballpark of the ballpark of the ballpark of the counteroffer, a deal would've been done.

I was really hoping to wake up this morning and read that Smith had been traded.

Well, I pretty much wake up every morning hoping to read that.

Teague/Korver wouldn't have been a bad deal for a S&T'd Monroe from Atlanta's perspective IMO. Now they're on fire this season so I'm sure they're happy they didn't make it, but it would have been fair in the off-season when the counter was made.

Of course Atlanta is probably one of the favorites to sign Greg outright this off-season IMO.

It's not really about power when it comes to Monroe.

Smith could be traded, but we're not accepting trash in-return. Man, I wouldn't expect our big 3 to be traded anytime soon. Like I said earlier, maybe a guard will be moved.

From the Goodwill article today in the Detroit News:

"The Sacramento Kings are still interested in Smith, a source told The Detroit News. The man with final say, Van Gundy, turned down the Kings proposal over the summer — one that amounted to a pu pu platter of talent relative to Smith's, as he wanted a chance to see if he could unlock all of Smith's versatility and turn it into consistency"

So originally it was Mike Malone who was against trading for Smith now Goodwill comes out and says it really was SVG that denied the trade for Smith.

If this is true Van Gundy is a moron. We could have had a fresh start without Josh Smith, played Thompson and Monroe at the 4, and signed Monroe to a new deal.

Even if we gave Monroe a huge deal and he didnt work out for us he would still be on contract and tradeable to any of the teams that have cap space this summer.

If Smith is on this roster by the end of the season and we lose Monroe for nothing mark this down as SVG first huge failure as GM
