Dumars was a key Woj source - Interesting...

In 2010, the NBA fined Dumars $500,000 for leaking multiple confidential league memos to Wojnarowski, according to multiple sources. This matches the third largest publicly known fine the league has ever handed down. The NBA decided that too many memos were making it into the media, so they conducted a sting operation over several months. They would change a few words or numbers in different team’s copies of otherwise identical memos, so that when the memos leaked they could spot the small differences and trace them back to the leaker. This approach caught Dumars red-handed, as well as an executive from another team who was fined $12,500 for leaking to a draft-focused website. Joe Dumars, the Detroit Pistons, and the NBA all declined to comment on the fine.

Read about this on a few different websites. No surprising at all that Joe had to "buy" goodwill from reporters.
I don't really have much to say on it beyond that. Woj played the game to get great intel, and Dumars was worried about taking care of Dumars, as always.

I'm surprised the league didn't come down harder - wish they would have forced him out in 2010! I wonder if it was because the team was for sale and with Tom Wilson already gone and the league didn't want to have Karen making any key personel decisions during the process.

Could it be really dumb luck what dumars did in the begining or him just falling off and out of the times that made him fall from grace.Iam going to go with the later.I will always give dumars his does for what he brought us,but goddamn,what a utter failure of an ending he had.

Didn't know about this. I liked Dumars, just knew he wasn't right for the job after our run was finished. But this has me second guessing him.
I just have a big problem with someone being an "insider". I totally understand it has to be someone, but I expect it to be some lesser person in the chain of communication. Not the GM of the team.

The league got a lot smarter. It used to be the good old boys club with teams rotating the same retread GMs. Trades used to be done on the golf course with draft picks or young guys just tossed in. The analytics revolution hit, people realized the value of draft picks and rookie contract players and Joe got caught up in no mans land, with ownership unwilling to commit to a rebuild in the desperate hope for landing playoff revenue.

I get Dumars leaked the info but the question is why?
Was it to put Woj in his pocket in regards to getting positive press from his articles?
I dont really understand Dumbass' motivation in all this

According to Jeff Moss, Dumars also "lent" $5,000 to Rob Parker, so this isn't really surprising.
