Official Tank Thread

Only game i cared about winning was tonight and the teams weaknesses were on full display which is just about everything. We have nobody on the team we can trade and get a profitable value in return so stop asking SVG to make a trade because he can't. This team needs help in so many areas it's not even funny. Hopefully we can lose into a top 10 pick, then load up in free agency because that is what's sorely needed if we wanna turn the corner

The Cavs are beating down on teams . This is not the same Cavs team from the beginning of the season. No shame in losing to a championship contender. The Pistons played hard all the way through. People are overreacting after losses to the two best teams in the East.

It's been a very difficult schedule and we lost our best player. This team isn't tanking.

Great. Another KCP or Brandon Knight at best then have to wait 3-5 years to see if they can make the NBA . . . I seriously doubt it. Stan don't believe in Tanking.

I'm done tanking. Need to win. Need to learn to play good team D.Need to learn to win. WE can get to the 8th seed, even without BJ.

To be totally honest I would love to get Johnson, Winslow, or who ever in the draft, but I would still trade our pick plus more for Tobias Harris right now and wouldn't look back.

^ This, times a lot (and although I wouldn't call BJ our "best player," I would call him the catalyst of our offense).

We lost our starting PG on the first game of a stretch of four games in five nights, three of which were/are on the road. Has DJ even gotten to practice with the starters yet? 'Cuz while he's been fine on offense, team defense is about communication, rotations, and working together as a unit, elements which are only built through time, repetition, and (yes, Allen Iverson!) practice. It's impossible to lose a starter like BJ and not take a step back, and this happened at a horribly-tough time in our schedule to boot. We're still only two games back from the playoffs, so there's no need to panic and pull the plug on the season; much like all of us caught in the northeast, the Pistons just need to weather this storm and dig themselves out the other side.

I watch Tobias play just about every game. He can do it all on offense, but is still very inconsistent. He has nights where he cannot hit the broad side of a barn. He does disappear at the end of games sometimes and other times is a factor. Plus, his defense is very poor, but he would be a massive upgrade for this team. I think Stan can make great team Defense work for players like Harris as he did with Ryan Anderson and Hedo. But, he is young and improving.

As a fan, I'm over tanking in the NBA.

As long as they give their all, 100% effort, I'm fine with the result. We knew that SVG would need time to mold the team, and right now, I want to see a winning culture installed. Losing Brandon hurts no doubt, but we've toiled away in mediocrity far too long.

i really doubt they tank but i do think they will lose.

BJ wasn't the greatest defender in the world but he was stronger and more focused on that side than he has been his entire career. DJ can replace BJs offense but he's too small and not quick enough to replace his defense. Dinwiddie can be a great defender one day but he's a rookie now so he'll be in a learning curve every game.

So now the team lacks defense against PGs, Small Forwards, and Stretch 4s. Those are some pretty big weaknesses and team defense will suffer even though the offense can stay good.

Like BMoFo said Tobias is a great offensive player but he's not the answer on D.

Any SVG team is not going to have problems on offense. His teams also do well with team system defense. But having 3 great defenders in the lineup is the difference between being playoff bound and being a contender for the next few years.

I'm all for getting a top 10 pick and adding a guy that can defend multiple positions:

Towns
Stanley
Kelly OUbre
Justise
Kevon Looney
Justin Anderson

I would rather trade for a ready now/proven player more. Our problem is on both side of the ball not just defensively we had two scorers in Greg and BJ one more would be nice. I don't want to be a talent farm and once our players get good they leave. We don't know if any of those players will pan out or not and pretty sure their not going to have huge impact as soon as they play.

i will take it to the bank the Cavs aren't winning the title, they are soft and don't have a team of winners. Yes i also include Lebron because he needed Wade to win. The Pistons played one of their hardest games i've seen them play all season last night and still lost AT HOME pretty decisively. That just shows how terrible this team is and devoid of playmakers and talent. I do not wanna luck into making the playoffs and getting swept because that is what would happen, what good would come from that?? We do not have one player on this roster we can just throw the ball to and get us a needed basket when we really need it. Need to address that in the draft and through free agency.

great, great loss tonight. Getting pounded by the 76ers hopefully should drain the teams morale and hopefully have them quit on the season

while I doubt the pistons will 'tank' in the sense that they will intentionally lose games, the fact is that we were already one of the worst offensive teams in the league and lost our best offensive player. Jennings pretty much was our offense for many games and now we have DJ Augustin running our offense and literally nobody else who can create for themselves or others (other than moose, if you can get him the ball).

with a bad-terrible offense and a mediocre defense you aren't going to win many games, whether it's intentional or not.

There's a near-zero% chance that we land Towns, Johnson or Oubre. We'd have to win the lottery or have a really impressive collapse to have a prayer of drafting them. Anderson would be a serious reach, he isn't that great. I'd rather pick up Portis or Kaminski than Looney. Winslow is my guy.

Jerian Grant is another dude we could draft who I'd love to have. Just put up 23 points, 11 assists, 7 boards, 3 steals and 2 blocks to take down Duke. He really has it all on the wing. KCP is not looking like the answer at SG. His defense is solid, but his offense has been pretty weak. Grant brings much better ball-handling and PG-like passing to the SG spot. He's a real cool operator.

I thought Jerian was a pg?

Look at Portis & Kaninskys numbers at 18 years old freshmen before you fall asleep on Looney.
There's a reason Chad Ford had him #5 for a long time this year

unfortunately i don't see any players in this upcoming draft who can fix our problems at the 3 or 4. Still need to tank none the less

Looking at the schedule I could see the team winning 4 of the last 6 games.

Been a long time since I posted here (2006 it looks like)...thanks to Howard Mass for getting my account switched to my correct email address. Used to be a global mod back then.

Anyway...I would like to see them drop below Orlando and Sacramento if possible. If they can do both, they almost triple their odds at winning the lotto. The real question is whether this slide makes Monroe less likely to stay.
