I wrote a similar thread a while back about tanking,granted we were on a 2-3 game win streak and had just let smith go.The previous thread was more to see were peoples head were at.So I bring it back seeing how we have looked like dodo since jennings was hurt.So I ask the question again,should we now try and tank out the rest of the season (or is it really tanking when you just suck now) seeing how we probably wont make the playoffs,but still have a shot at a decent pick.I understand the view from some of you fans that want to not tank,and want the players to experience winning and playoffs,but now that dosent look like a possibilty anymore.

Team still won't tank. But, they're definitely not going to be as good going forward with their subpar point guards.

Make a trade for a backup pg, don't give up anything that would hurt our future.
Hopefully continue to change the culture here, maybe Monroe stays. keep playing the young guys.
Let the chips fall where they may: if we sneak into the playoffs, great experience and momentum for next year, and we'll still have a decent pick. If not, we get a really good pick hopefully.

Must win. Learn to play hard all the time. If we make the playoffs, great. If we don't, hopefully we're fighting to the end and playing meaningful games trying to get there.

We're not going to suck enough to get a great pick anyway.

I don't know about that. If Jennings being out means the team IQ drops by 50 points and they play like they haven't slept in a week, there's plenty enough suck to lead to a high draft pick.

This team has sucked for over a half decade solid.

I don't think I can be more anti-tank than I am now. We need to try to cultivate a winning mentality regardless of how difficult a proposition that might be.

I used to think tanking meant looking at the big picture. Now I realize how small minded it is.

My hope is that Detroit still pushes for some sort of playoff spot. I don't think it'll happen now, but that should always be the goal.
Hopefully Monroe re-signs, Jennings gets back healthy and we add some more talent through FA and the draft. This season should be about learning SVG system and playing as well as possible. Tanking is never a good idea.

Well here we are. Back at it again. Ready for another top 8-9 pick in the draft. God I feel like this team is cursed to forever be stuck in no man's land. Either we make a trade for a back up PG and a solid Sf and hope we take that last playoff seed, or we do nothing and lose as much as we can. Just no more pointless wins please.

The Goin' to Work team had to learn to play the right way.

This team is desperately in need of that cultural shift. Play hard. Play smart. Play defense. All. The. Time. That's what this initial SVG season is all about. More than winning games for this season, it is about putting together a winning culture. We have pieces that need developing and pieces that need to go. Get a stop gap pg and develop your players to compete on a nightly basis. Squeeze every ounce of effort and potential out of them and get rid of whatever is not worth the squeeze at the end of the season.

Don't Tank.
Develop.

Tanking is soo shortsighted. Philly fans can say they treadmilled for a few years and topped out, so now they are going to the extreme to build something actually capable of winning, but in their two years of blatantly tanking they've walked away with MCW (a guard who can't shoot at all and they want to sell), Noel (a raw project who may never get anywhere near acceptable offensively) and two top 10 picks who haven't played an NBA minute between them. They missed out on their target in Wiggins, who looks like the real deal already. Keep it up for another couple of years and they'll have no one with any idea how to win in the NBA and have a real problem attracting FA talent until they actually do start winning. Have none of your picks work out and you end up spiraling like the Clippers did for years or like the Kings are currently doing.

It's one thing to do what the Warriors did a few years ago and blatantly tank your last 5-10 games to keep a protected pick. It's another thing entirely to build a culture of losing. Once losing becomes accepted (or even encouraged) in the building, it's incredibly difficult to reverse.

We don't need to try and tank - we're just not good. This team is flat - Jennings was the "spiritual leader" and energy source the other players fed off of and that spark isn't there anymore.

I will say it is remarkable how the tone of this board has changed from just a year or two back. Until fairly recently, everyone favored tanking, or at least almost everyone. Its a positive evolution of attitude IMO.

Even I waffled back and fourth on the issue many times.

I've been firmly in the no-tank camp for probably about the last year.

I really think a lot of us were just starved for direction. It seemed for the end of Joe's run the plan was basically slap band-aids on enough things to not get fired. Tanking represented an obvious direction, meanwhile eking out an 8 seed likely meant more of Joe's reign.

Now we have a guy steering the ship with a clear vision and it's one that's been successful in the past. The Josh move signaled Gores might not be the cheapskate a lot of us feared. This team provided a glimpse of what was capable before Jennings went down and finishing strong can't hurt in helping our appeal to free agents. No reason to hope for tanking just so we know there's some sort of plan in place.

We definitely don't need to tank but I think we will lose enough to be in play for one of Winslow, Hezonja, Turner, Kaminsky, Porzingas etc... So I'm not worried about it. We keep trying to develop a winning culture and we are still going to get a nice prospect while have a lot of cap space next season as well. Next season we should be much improved.

I'm anti-tank, but I don't think it makes a difference.

I'm almost 100% positive SVG will try to win every game he can. I just don't think we have the talent right now to win more than half of our games, which we'll need to in order to sniff playoffs.

personally I'm hoping that SVG continues to teach the guys how to play smart, hard, disciplined basketball and then let the chips fall where they may in terms of where we draft.

Never believed in tanking, never will.

That's not to say you can't play with the future in mind.

Maybe I should have put,who thinks we win anymore games and end up with a top 10 pick or who thinks we will still make the playoffs.

We could still finish anywhere between 13th-8th. The way we're currently playing our bottom seems more likely, but the East is so bad that another hot streak or two and we could be right back in the mix. Still a lot of time left in the season and a lot could happen (both to us and our competition).
