Prince not happy about going back to Det

Post#1 » by retrolenny » Sat Feb 21, 2015 1:21 pm

He wants to be traded to a playoff contender... Is it just me but I would think Prince would relish this opportunity? He gets to go to the team that drafted him, where he won a championship, he was a fan favorite here, and instead of being some bench warmer with limited minutes, he will play a big role and potentially play a nice role in Det return to the playoffs. What's all the disappointment about? Last time I checked any team that makes the playoffs is a contender. You needn't think that far back in how Mutumbo's Nuggets (8th) seed took out Barkleys Suns (1st) seed. I for one am happy to have Prince back.. Hopefully he'll get on board with it too!!

According to Van Gundy he wasn't exactly excited, not like Reggie Jackson was.

Up to that point he'd been expecting the Celtics to buy him out so he could sign with a contender, which is pretty understandable.

And lol at the notion of any team with a shot at the playoffs being a contender.

There are more recent teams than that that won as 8th seeds (the Nuggets beat the SONICS, not the Suns, but that was over 20 years ago), but if you can honestly say those teams are similar to ours than you frankly aren't paying attention. Being a contender for the 8th seed in the pathetic eastern conferance where sub .500 teams will likely make it, if you think that's a contender....

Your link isn't working, but if he had a deal with Boston to buy him out at deadline, I don't blame him for being upset. I just hope he doesn't expect the Pistons to buy him out now.

Why would Boston make that trade unless they like Jerebko or something and might consider keeping him - but they have enough PF's there already. They seemed to have screwed over Tay a bit in making this trade for no real benefit for their team. I guess they save money in the deal, maybe Tay was expecting full remaining pay less the pro-rated vet's minimum he'd get from his new team or something and this deal saved Boston more.

They don't have to buy out Prince, and get a look at a couple guys who could space the floor for Boston. For Detroit, it opens up more roster space.

If Prince doesn't want to come home, buy him out and let Miller have those minutes. No point in having a sulking vet, when Butler just dropped 20 against one of the best defenses in the league last night.

Exactly, it just doesn't make sense because normally a buyout is pennies on the dollar of what the player is making so it seems they would've saved more by buying him out. I don't like Prince myself so I do wish they bought him out.

Even if Prince sulks there is no way Stan buys him out unless another SF is cut and hits the market and agrees to come here. Does Prince plan on retiring or playing further? If he still wants to play after this season, than playing 20 minutes a game plus here makes it more likely to convince a team he still has value left to sign him. If he planned on hanging them up than I can see how he might have wanted to catch on with a true contender for one last run. I don't buy him heading to the Clippers though, he always seemed to never to want to go home - I think he wanted to leave any Compton ghosts in the past.

Bill Simmons speculated that Danny Ainge made this trade to screw over Doc Rivers

Prince really wanted to play for the Clippers because they have a huge need for a SF, he would get tons of minutes, and be featured on a semi-contender in the playoffs

It's possible that Ainge hates Doc so much that he made this trade to prevent Tay from signing with L.A.

I think the owner, coach, and Ainge all thought it was a better idea to try out two players (Datome/Jerebko) then to pay someone to go away and not have anything to show for that $

But if Tayshaun is really asking for a buyout than he is an even bigger bittch than I remembered.

Clippers have no chance to make the WCF let alone the damn Finals. Tayshaun wants to be featured on a contender but would get the same good press if he produced quality minutes for us in our first trip back to the playoffs. As much as Singler pissed people off, there was just no point in his inclusion in that trade. We could have used Jerebko/Datome in another move if needed

Fixed link http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2015/02/20/detroit-pistons-tayshaun-prince-ecstatic-returning/23781173/

Quote from SVG:
"Reggie was really, really excited. I think Tayshaun was — not unhappy, but he was sort of trying to figure out what the hell happened, and I understand that."

Obviously no one was as excited as Reggie, who was crying tears of joy. Stan's quote is a contradiction to the thread title, so hopefully the thing with Tayshaun isn't really a big deal.

Tay was probably told by Boston they would buy him out but then was traded instead. He's probably upset because he was lied to.

Well damn, I guess he should just play well and sign with one in the summer now. I mean it's understandable on his part as well. No body wants to be a journey men being passed around to rebuilding teams at that age. And let's not act like we brought him here so he can retire a piston, he's just a expiring contract.

For the record, I don't think the Clips are any more of a contender than we are... GS, SA, DAL, MEM, OKC and HOU would steamroll them. Call me a homer but I think the Pistons have more potential than LAC!!! Again, the Pistons aren't contenders either as I don't think we could get through Atlanta or CLE but I think we could get through all of the other contenders if the chemistry continues to click and the team continues to improve.

I'm sure he's happy about going back to where he got his start but not head over heels happy like Reggie is lol. Pretty sure he's glad to be back in a comfort zone situation even though things have changed.

Det minus Josh Smith

17-10... We are in the lowly Eastern Conference and the Clips are in a very tough conference. I think the Pistons have a much better shot of advancing in the Eastern Conference than LAC has in advancing in the Western Conference!! I highly doubt I'm alone in my thoughts!!!

Guess who's also 17-10 since we lost Josh Smith.

Yep. The Clippers. And guess what matters in games that come down to the wire (i.e. playoff games)? Having a player or two that can take over.

We have Reggie Jackson. They have CP3 and Blake. It's not even close.
