Frontcourt Defense

Post#1 » by King Bugs » Thu Mar 5, 2015 7:34 am

What is up with this? It doesn't matter if the PF/C is good, bad, mediocre, journeyman, rookie, sophomore, veteran, superstar, whatever... chances are they're gonna have a huge game on us.

Greg and Andre have got to play better defensively. Andre is putting up empty numbers and I was starting to come around on Greg, but I'm changing my mind on him again.

Drummond I don't get, especially when someone just backs him down and scores it right over him with ease. If he has space then he has the room to get up with his athleticism and swat it. I think he needs to learn to go more vertical but then I think he's too scared of the pump fakes and fouls now to leave his feet. What's Drummonds wingspan?

7'6.25.

You would think with his physical gifts he would be one of the most feared rim protectors in basketball, but that just has not been the case.

Drummond doesn't have the awareness yet and Monroe doesn't have the foot speed.

The mystery has been solved in less than 14 words. Surprised most don't know this already.

Drummond is a terrible one on one defender, he gets schooled by pump fakes easily. Low post scorer score at will against him. At least he challenges some shot at the rim now, i am not sure he's got the defensive instinct to ever be a great defender. There are some things you can learn and he definitely improved, he's got the physical tools too but i am not sure he got the desire to be a very good defender.

Monroe is decent low post defender but obviously lacks the athleticism to be an above the rim protector or good help defender, chasing stretch 4s around the perimeter is also not one of his strengths.

Ever notice when Drummond closes out on a shooter his hand is almost directly out in front of him instead of high up in the air? Just laziness or what sheesh. Put your hand up high Andre!

Yes, that's the biggest issue I'm seeing. With his wingspan and athleticism nobody should just be throwing up shots so easy on him.

This is what is starting to scare me about Dre. He seems like he gets too comfortable and knows his #s will be somewhere near 13 and 13 anyway. He doesn't have that drive. When we're in a playoff push and he posts he's giving up meat for a few weeks, it makes me wonder what his priorities are.
