I've.. Got. A. Plan.
So. We've got.
Jennings-8.3M + Meeks-6.3M + 8th pick-2.4M(~projected, right now) + Martin-1.2M(PO) + Drummond-3.3M(TO) + Tolliver-3M(TO) + KCP-2.9M(TO) + Monroe-10.2M(cap hold) + Jackson-5.5M(cap hold) + 11th roster spot-0.5M(cap hold) + 12th roster spot-0.5M(cap hold) + Smith-5.4M(dead money) + Gray-1.4M(dead money) = 51.7M, 66.5M salary cap(~projected, right now) = ~14.8M CAP SPACE
14.8M. More than enough to out-bid the Magic and any other takers for RFA Tobias Harris.
Draft Oubre.
Go over the cap to resign Monroe and Jackson.
Leaves this roster..
C: Drummond, Monroe, ???
PF: Monroe / Harris, Tolliver
SF: Harris / Oubre, KCP, Martin
SG: KCP, Meeks, Jennings
PG: Jackson, Dinwiddie, Jennings
That's not bad at all. I'd like a better two-guard. Maybe you can trade KCP for a pick high enough to get an upgrade (Justin Anderson?). Maybe you can turn Jennings and Meeks into someone? Some options there..

Re: I've.. Got. A. Plan.
Your plan/anyone's plan/SVG's plan can include Monroe long term, but the reality is that at the end of the day it's his decision and we have very little leverage. We can offer him more years and thus more money, but anywhere he goes he'll get paid well. I think he would rather go to a team with a better chance to actually win something, or heck...at least make the playoffs. I think he's gone.
I remember reading that Harris will get a bonus from Nike if he signs in LA/Chicago/NY, and he's from NY. And of course Orlando can still match even if he does decide to sign an offer sheet with someone else, so getting him seems unlikely.
Even if by some stretch Monroe/Harris both signed with us, that team still has major spacing issues. Monroe/Dre/Jackson can't shoot. KCP/Harris can, but that still isn't enough spacing.

Harris/Tolliver at the 4.
Oubre/Harris at the 3.
KCP/Meeks/Jennings at the 2.
Those are stretched out lineups.

I'd be happy with that. I'd also not shed a tear if we got something for Monroe in a sign and trade

That's a great plan, very similar to mine. I'd just switch out Oubre for Johnson.
That plan works whether Monroe resigns or not.

Re: I've.. Got. A. Plan.
Harris is a promising, young tweener forward. He makes a lot of sense for how SVG likes to play, and could definitely see Detroit offering him a max contract and pushing Orlando to make a decision.
Harris has been connected in the media to New York. But, it takes two to tango. The Knicks aren't going to pursue Harris early in free agency, when they have players like Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge and Jimmy Butler higher on their list. If Detroit moves in quickly, they may be able to secure Harris. Harris' long term future in Orlando is murky, compared to that of Butler to Chicago or Leonard in San Antonio.
As for drafting Oubre. If Johnson is off the board, I'd be fine with that. He started the season in Kansas' dog house, but has been getting minutes and producing. Additionally, his elite athleticism, 6'7 height and seven foot wing span makes him VERY intriguing to me. I'm really happy we have a coach who actually develops young players.

I've got a plan...let's keep changing out players non-stop every year until the Pistons win an NBA title.

Aldridge isnt going anywhere & its hard to find a better home for Gasol than his current.
I think this Summer is all about Greg Monroe & Jimmy Butler.

As well as RJ and Green.
My guess is Butler and Green get matched on about any contract.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I personally DO NOT want Monroe on this team next season. Why are so many people persistent on overpaying a 15 & 10 guy to play out of position? Don't get me wrong, Monroe is talented and he can play the 4 in limited stretches but we should really be hoping to get draft picks or as valuable assets we can from the team of his choosing in a s&t. Drummond is our future and I see no reason to pay a big that displays no range on his shot or defensive ability purely because he is talented. Sliding him to the 5 will minimise his ineffectiveness on defence and I'd much rather pay a wing or a stretch 4 to play the position.
I do like the rest of your plan though and as much as I like KCP's defence I would be open to trading him in the right deal. Unless of course he become a man over the break and becomes consistent, I think he will tantalise everyone with a 20/5/2 game with a decent shooting % followed by a 10/4/1 game on 32% shooting.
I'm not the biggest Harris fan and I'm worried if we did get him we would heavily overpay but I could live with it easier than resigning Monroe to $14m+. We really need spacing for our team to succeed.

Re: I've.. Got. A. Plan.
The Pistons should at least try to get a sign and trade for Monroe. Monroe will be in demand this offseason and the Pistons should get something in return via Sign and trade. One option would be for the Pistons to acquire a real point guard. I think they are fine with Jennings but if for some reason he doesn't return healthy and the Pistons want to move on, I think they should ditch the Reggie Jackson experiment as well and get a real point guard. I don't believe Jackson is the answer and I would hate to see this team waste their future because of this guy. Sign Draymond Green to a big contract and the team is set.
Something I would do if I were the Pistons is go after Kyle Lowry. There's a lot of tension in Toronto right now with their players and Lowry might be a piece they are willing to move for the right price. The Raptors are looking for a low post presence.
Another good move for the Pistons would be to offer Reggie Jackson for Trevor Ariza. The Rockets need a point guard and I think they are willing to sacrifice Ariza for him.
Draymond Green has of course expressed interest in playing for the Pistons and he would be the big free agent signing in the offseason. We all know how valuable he can be.
Pg-Lowry
Sg- KCP/Meeks
Sf - Trevor Ariza
PF - Draymond Green
C- Drummond
That right there is a team built for the playoffs.

Re: I've.. Got. A. Plan.
1.) renounce monroe on day 1.
-SVG has steel balls right? well, i think he needs to use them and renounce moose on the first day of free agency. i get that greg and his agent have both said that he'd be open to staying in detroit, but i think that's just posturing to add to greg's professional image. the writing's on the wall, he's gone. i'd expect he and stan to have a conversation about greg's intent to leave the team once FA starts, giving us the ability to go after his replacement right away. this probably won't go down this way, but it should.
2.) go hard after draymond green/tobias harris
-either one of these guys would drastically improve our team on both ends. draymond's uncanny defensive prowess and offensive versatility would make him an extremely valuable piece to our core. tobias seems like a tailor-made fit for SVG's offense with his ability to space the court and make plays off the dribble from the PF spot. he's no slouch defensively either, so he'd surely endear himself to his head coach. i'd first go after green, then harris as my backup plan, but i'd offer the same contract for both. it'd probably take josh smith money, maybe more, to pry them from their ball clubs.
3.) convince milwaukee to accept a S&T for middleton
-this one's a bit of a stretch, but i think we could convince the bucks to accept a S&T for middleton if we can seriously outbid them. my logic is that khris gives the bucks depth on the perimeter, but with the greek freak and parker in tow and OJ mayo and dudley on the bench, they would be hard-pressed to pay middleton big bucks. i think we could pry him away with a 4 year/$44 million contract, signing and trading them jodie meeks and cartier martin in the process. jodie would essential replace middleton in their offense, spacing the court and running off screens for MCW, and martin would give them inexpensive depth on the perimeter. win-win for both sides.
4.) lock up reggie jackson. should there be a financial limitation? sure, but i don't believe he'll get the max from us or anyone else, so we should be able to get him for a reasonable price.
5.) do whatever it takes to secure stanley johnson in the draft (i'm aware that the draft comes first, this list is in order of importance)
-give the fact that i expect us to pick in the 6-8 range, i think we have a great shot of being able to land stanley johnson. we need to do whatever it takes to make that happen because this guy is going to be a stud on both ends, especially defensively. it's been so long since we've had a lock-down defensive SF...
6.) fill out the roster with minimum signings.
7.) sort out the jennings/jackson situation by the trade deadline.
PG: jackson, jennings, dinwiddie
SG: KCP, middleton, dinwiddie
SF: middleton, johnson, FA
PF: green/harris, tolliver, williams, miller/FA
C: drummond, anthony/FA, FA

Middleton is paying his best basketball as an SG with a size advantage... Not an SF where the Pistons played him. So unless your trying to get rid of KCP you have to see if he would have the same advantage over SFs and if SVG would start him at SG over KCP and Meeks

Re: I've.. Got. A. Plan.
Plus I've read that Middleton is part of the bucks long term plan, which is why they got rid of Brandon night so they can have more money to keep Middleton.
Jabari Parker is there 4 of the future and he is weak on defense so they want to surround him with oversized wing players.
MCW at the one.
Middleton at the two.
Gianni's at the three
I don't think they let Middleton go and I don't think Middleton wants to leave because he knows that he fits in there and he has a size advantage playing the two guard.
Our SF has to be in the draft. Draymond Green is playing his best ball as a four, and I don't trust Tobias Harris to defend threes, he plays his best ball as a stretch 4. We need a three that is a three

Stanley Johnson? That's interesting. He's a better shooter than advertised. .353 from 3 this season. Oubre - .373. Almost identical attempts.

If there's room for Harris and Middleton -- that'd be great. I'd prefer Tobias of the two, though. If for no other reason, because of the lack of true stretch-4's in the league right now. With plus starter potential.

I'm not the biggest Harris fan and I'm worried if we did get him we would heavily overpay but I could live with it easier than resigning Monroe to $14m+. We really need spacing for our team to succeed.

Way I look at Monroe. Say we sign someone like Tobias and he becomes a star. Say we draft someone like Johnson or Oubre and he becomes a star. Say Drummond continues to develop and becomes a star.
There's nothing wrong with having a third good big man. There's 96 minutes a game at the 4 and 5 positions. Can Drummond play much more than 32 a night? Can Tobias? If both did.. there'd still be 32 minutes a night on the court available for Greg. Nothing wrong with having a good third big man on an NBA roster, man. He's young. Good at the 5. Okay at the 4. Decent rebounder at both spots. Decent defender at the 5, below average at the 4. Good low post scorer in either spot. Young. Good intangibles. Can go over the cap to keep him. So why not if we can? It's not like he'll be someone who's impossible to later trade for an improvement. Cap's going way up next season. Max deal for him next season won't be THAT daunting to a trade partner. And the worst case is keeping him -- fine!
