SVG Hints At Interest In Draymond Green

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Thu Mar 12, 2015 11:18 pm

Stan Van Gundy appeared careful to say that he simply liked the type of player that Draymond Green is when he spoke with reporters before Wednesday’s Pistons-Warriors game, but it’s clear that Van Gundy would like to have Green on his team, writes Jimmy Durkin of the Bay Area News Group. The native of Saginaw, Michigan, has “significant interest” in signing an offer sheet with the Pistons this summer, as Adrian Wojnarowski reported last month, though Green downplayed the notion Wednesday, as Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press relays.

“Everybody needs that kind of guy,” Van Gundy said in response to a question about whether the Pistons need a tough guy like Green. “Yeah, absolutely. Everybody needs those guys.”

“When you’re talking about a tough guy who can also shoot the ball, there’s your ideal,” Van Gundy also said...

We all know this, but if GS can match what tezam would you rather go to? I know hard decision.

Maybe if GS wins the Championship this year (I don't think they will 2nd rd exit), he will decide well I have a Championship i'll go help my hometown team or stay with GS to try and win more.

I don't think you pay a player for intangibles. Because if you do, than that becomes their job and it's less "special" (hard to put to words/explain).

Whoever said that GS will just accept the tax for a year is on the money... unfortunately chances are slim... the only way this happens is if Draymond himself pushes for it by going for the UFA

I think on this team we should, we don't really have any vocal guys or leaders. You'll be surprised at the effect he'll have if he comes here, our players will love to play with him.

Green won't be cheap. GSW likes him..expects to pay him. The Pistons? As easy and for about the same $ (or less they'd re-up Monroe who's a full 7 ft and a better scorer. Green..a 6-7 PF scoring about 12 ppg.. is a "Swiss Army knife" but not a prototype PF and a team in need of a real scorer likely spends it's money elsewhere. Even were the Pistons to throw Max ($15 mill or so) at Dray...GSW can drag that out a few days.. whether they match or not. That lag can wreck plan B. That's why teams are more inclined to go for a UFA than an RFA. I reckon the Pistons take a look but probably spend elsewhere.
CENSORED... No comment.

If we offer Green the Max, which i am slowly leaning towards we should, we put GS in a precarious position. Green will stand to make more money than KT

That was me on another thread. Lacob will gladly go into luxury tax for one whole year since David Lee's contract will expire after and then the cap goes up dramatically. It's such an easy decision considering if they actually win the title.

Exactly. Speights and Lee are signed until the end of next year why not take advantage of a rotation of Green / Lee - Bogut / Speights

Our best bet is to go after Carroll or maybe Middleton (but Bucks may match on him if he blows up in the playoffs for them)

Carroll would be sweet but I just feel like anyone we sign is going to under perform anyways

this has been discussed to death. why would golden state ever do this?? they already have lee, bogut, and speights. they wouldn't need monroe.

Tampering!!

I don't think there's anything to see here. If you want a tough guy, you can find one. We definitely need that type of hard personality, right now Drummond/Monroe/KCP ... none of them come across as tough guys to me.
We all know that we need shooting.

Paying Draymond 15M or something like that just feels so crazy to me. I like his defense, he knows himself and how he fits in a "role" .. but you know that with guys like Steph and Klay, he is capable of just fitting in his role. I am standing next to the thought that paying him that money and putting him on our team would be a disaster.. *Unless* Drummond can develop a better offensive game and/or Jackson becomes a superstar.

Paying Drummond $15 mil per year is a no brainer.

Barring anything unforeseen, he'll get whatever max the Pistons have to pay to keep him. It will be more than $15M.

Exactly. There were already rumors this year they wanted to dump Lee's cap hit and Bogut can't be relied upon. In a vacuum, I think Monroe is more talented than Draymond, but for our needs Draymond is likely more valuable. It's likely given GSW's roster, they could view Monroe as more valuable. I think the deal makes a lot of sense for both teams and may be our best outcome.
