GENTLEMEN. Let's talk Off-Season
First things first. Things I LOVE about this team.
#1a: DRUMMOND. What is he, 20, 21? It takes human beings that big a minute to develop their coordination and things of such. This guy, if he can stay healthy, is going to be an NBA Hall of Famer. He's just got that perfect attitude. Team guy. Wants to win. Likes his teammates. Wants his teammates to like him. Likewise with his coach. Wants to learn. Wants to get better. Very, very coachable. Very great attitude for such a talent. Really developing as an offensive force as well. As he gets his touch. He gets his moves. He gets comfortable. He gets his game. Incredible size, strength, athleticism. Not many guys in the league I'd trade him for. Anthony Davis is really the only guy I'd consider. Defense and rebounding are big time coming along as well. He's one hell of a centerpiece. Maybe the best centerpiece we've ever had.
#1b: SVG. We're very lucky to have him. And to have him in charge of the entire ship. One of the few guys who really sees the game. One of the fewer guys who really lives it, loves it, works it, and can do it.
#3: Reggie Jackson. The absolute perfect point guard for Dre and SVG. How long he is. How great of an athlete he is. How he penetrates and gets to the basket. Defense is an absolute plus for him. The wrap around, crazy passes he can make on the drive -- to Dre cutting/rolling, or kick-outs to (should be) shooters. He's a clog. Need to wrap him up.
WHAT WE NEED.
A: Not Monroe. We're simply a better team w Tolliver -- a very role role player out there. Monroe just clogs Dre and Reggie's operating room out there on the floor. Won't rip his D or game too bad. But he's just not right for us. Really hoping we can work out something for him in a sign and trade.
B: A different 4. Guy I really like is Tobias Harris. Big, strong and athletic enough to guard the position. Good enough shooter. Very young and developing. Still underrated. RFA. Believe he's get-able at a high enough price. And I'd go for it. 4's who can shoot and defend/rebound their position are just still so rare in the league.
C: Pure shooter. Danny Green. UFA. SA's gonna break the bank on Kawai. He's get-able. Great defender for his position as well. Consummate team guy. 40+% from deep consistently. Certainly not phazed by the bright lights.
D: Those two above guys are get-able. This guy, idk. Draymond Green. I've heard GS will match a max. I've heard they can't. If they can't, he's priority #1. Could be our stretch 4 instead of Tobias. Or our 3 alongside him. Don't know a ton about the cap situation at this point. I wonder if GS would be interested in a S&T. If he wants to be in Michigan. If Monroe wants to be w a winner? It's not like GS has a stud big man. Maybe they'd be more comfortable making that investment in a big man to go along with all their wings -- Curry, Thompson, Barns, Iggy. As opposed to on another wing.
E: Other guy of interest. Khris Middleton. We'll see how it all shakes out.
F: Trade Jennings. Don't like his DEF. Not an enormous fan of his PG game. Don't like his general attitude, or his contract. That being said--he seemed to at least be making an effort to please SVG. And he can get hot from outside occassionally. Wouldn't kill a team. But, all things being equal, I'd like to say bye. Might have some value.
G: Trade KCP. His defense is very overrated. Shoots too much. Isn't as good a shooter as his number's indicate. Waste's a lot of possessions. Probably has some value in a trade too.
H: I'm not even going to get into the draft. It's deep. There's a lot of talent, at a lot of positions. SVG. God. I hope he can scout rooks. There's someone out there, who will be there for us, who can really help us.
I: Should resign Tolliver, if we can. He's a great role guy. Williams, Q, even Anthony...if cheap enough...I wouldn't mind. Even Butler...if truly cheap enough...I wouldn't mind. We'll see how all that shakes out tho.
C: Drummond
PF: *Harris. *Tolliver.
SF: *Green. Martin
SG: *Green. Meeks
PG: Jackson, Dinwiddie
Anything looking anything like that comes out of the East next season or the next. Plus a good pick, I hope.

Middleton is another in a long line of talent the Stones have given up on developing, only to see them flourish elsewhere. That makes it really interesting that you are willing to cast off KCP and label him as overrated. He'll be another guy who takes off if we give up on him.
Jennings is as good as gone. He's going to be like Rondo was for Boston, waiting to prove he has recovered enough to play the game so he can be shipped out.
I'm interested to see what we do in the draft. My wish list includes Justise Winslow and Stanley Johnson for our starting 3. As a free agent pick up, I would love to see Draymond Green with the Stones.

Re: GENTLEMEN. Let's talk Off-Season
Stop trying to give up rookie contracts, when the cap goes up, they are going to be worth more than gold.
Your whole plan involves heavily on RFAs which their respective teams or other teams will go heavily for instead of ours. It's a complete crap shoot. The only somewhat realistic FA you listed was Danny Green and we would have to overpay.
Overall, 5/10

Assuming 4 should be at 1 on your list since that will happen 1st. That said... No way does OKC do that deal especially with Jennings ailing.
CHI would most likely match even if they flame out in the playoffs.
Guys we need to look at should be unrestricted FAs as they can't be matched like RFAs can.
Green and Carroll we at least might have a shot at.

Re: GENTLEMEN. Let's talk Off-Season
RFAs this year are either going to bet on themselves for the projected cap spike (take QO) or their respective teams will be silly not to match.
Spurs will match Kawhi.
Butler repeatedly said he's staying and owners are matching.
GSW will be in luxury for one whole year which is nothing if they win the chip. So Draymond is staying.

Re: GENTLEMEN. Let's talk Off-Season
If Draymond Green wants to come home he needs to sign the QO and be a UFA next off-season when the cap explodes and Detroit could give the man his money. We ain't getting him as a RFA. Sounds like he just wants to get paid and is using Detroit for a max offer to then have GS match.

This on both points.
Green, butler, Leonard.. all these level RFA aren't leaving their teams. I'd be surprised if even harris leaves Orlando at this point.
Trading KCP at this point is ridiculous unless we get some sort of outlandish return.

Re: GENTLEMEN. Let's talk Off-Season
This is my quick version of an ideal Pistons offseason
1) Draft Oubre at 8, I'd prefer Winslow but Oubre is the next best thing IMO
2) Trade pure cap for Gallo, I've gone back and forth on Gallo- he's an atrocious defender but he can shoot the basketball and could be had for nothing since Denver is rebuilding. He's a gamble but he expires in 16 if he doesnt work out. He's putting up 17 points/4 boards in 31 minutes post AS break on 42% FG and 38% from 3. He's a pure shooter, very one dimensional but would be a great floor spreader at the 3 and the 4.
3) Sign Jae Crowder to a 3/10 deal. Crowder is a great perimeter defender, he's not a great shooter but he was solid in college no reason to think he can't get it together. It would be great for Pistons to have another wing defender and Crowder could come pretty cheap.
4) I don't care how you feel about Monroe, it is a horrific move to let him walk in FA. Pistons best served offering him the 5 year max- even if he doesn't work out (which I think he will), Pistons could move him at the trade deadline. Pistons cannot let assets walk away for nothing.
5) Re sign Jackson to the 4 year max. Same idea with Jackson, if he doesn't work out- he's moveable given the skyrocketing cap
2015-2016 Detroit Pistons
Jackson/Jennings/Dinwiddie
KCP/Meeks/Martin
Gallinari/Crowder/Oubre
Monroe/Gallinari/Tollver/Miller
Drummond/Monroe/Anthony
We seriously upgrade at the wing and backup 4 spots and will rely on internal improvements for Jackson, KCP, Monroe and Meeks as well as hopefully a healthy Jennings. I think we have the pieces to make the playoffs and I doubt we sign any marquee free agents.

Hey this seems realistic. But I think the Bulls match. Also, Jimmy doesn't deserve the max in my opinion.

Pretty good plan.
1. I care about who we draft, but unless we win the lottery, I don't think we will get an impactful starter this year, but a long term piece for sure.
2. I like the Gallinari move for a quick fix.
3. Monroe is gone and we can't do anything about it. A Max offer isn't going to sway him.

I agree but at least the odds are better than RFAs... not that that will help us much unfortunately.

While I agree that Monroe is likely gone and am aware that I am in denial, I still think that the Pistons max can sway him. There is a huge difference between the max deal that Monroe can get from other teams and the max Pistons can offer, Its 4/66 vs 5/90- thats 1 year and around 25 million dollars- not chump change. Unless a bonafide playoff team somehow creates the space to offer Monroe a max, I can’t see him leaving Detroit for the 4/66 to go to a team like NYK/LAL that has the room to sign him outright. The fact is that most of the teams that have the cap to sign Monroe outright are worse than Detroit and the teams that offered him max contract last season- POR and ATL aren't likely to make a move for him. Portland doesnt have the capspace unless they plan to renounce Aldridge, Matthews and Lopez (also Leonard is developing well for them) and Atlanta won't lose Millsap to gain Monroe since they are rolling.

Why in the hell would we pay Monroe 5/90? That would be a terrible idea.

Not even close since the cap is skyrocketing. People need to understand that now is the time to lock up FAs to long term deals because these deals wont even be close to max contracts under the new TV deals. Players and agents are aware of the increasing cap as are front offices- FA will be paid accordingly.
If Greg doesn't fit, which has always been BS, you can move him for value instead of letting an asset walk away for nothing. It makes less than zero business sense to let Monroe get away, ultimately its his decision but would be a huge blunder for the FO. I also would be shocked if Monroe takes less money to play with Lakers, Suns, Celtics, Magic, Knicks, 6ers, Bucks- the only teams with the $$ to sign him outright.
