PBT via NY Daily News: Monroe to Knicks is Virtually a Done Deal

Maybe the worst kept secret in the NBA is that Phil Jackson plans to pursue Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe in free agency this summer. In fact, one league executive called it “about as close to a done deal as you can get.”
A done deal is illegal of course and would open Jackson and the Knicks to tampering charges. A more likely scenario is that representatives from both parties have made their interest known and will proceed accordingly once the free-agent recruiting period begins on July 1st. It happens all the time. …
It’s easy to connect the dots; Monroe’s agent, David Falk, is one of the few agents that Jackson has a relationship with going back more than 20 years when Falk was representing Michael Jordan. Falk is looking for a max contract for Monroe and the Knicks, coming off the worst season in franchise history, are happy to oblige.

Its the New York Daily News.
Skepticism is the appropriate position right now. I am of the belief that Monroe will leave, but I see no reason to lend credence to this article.

Happy for the knicks. They are going to acquire a great player that they can build around with carmelo and hopefully towns.
I can see them competing for championships right away.

Not just defense but their style of play because they both demand the ball to be effective or even put forth effort in a lot of cases.

that is a very good point actually. your are right about they both need the ball to be effective and it stalls the offense.
what annoys me about greg is that he needs around 17 shots to give you 18ppg bc he only makes about 48% of his shots from 3-4 feet plus his free throw shooting is anywhere from 60-70% off topic a little, but you made me think of his offensive efficiency

If they draft Okafor, that's going to be awful front court defensively. I will say though, he would be an excellent fit in the triangle and get to showcase some of the passing skills he has but doesn't really get a chance to utilize too often these days.
I like Monroe but handing out a 5 year max to him, a 4 year max or near max to Reggie, and a 5 year max extension to Drummond just doesn't seem smart to me long term.

Iam sure there are more teams interested in moose than just the knicks,if it isnt all about money for him,he will choose to go anywhere else.Moose said he was sick of the ups and downs and wanted to wait and see what stan could do,but then you go sign with the nyk,one of the shitiest and horribly run teams. If this is true, then it does show he wasant interested in coming back and it was all about the moola.Between stan and jackson, have to give it to stan for best gm out of the 2,with what they had to work with.
Good luck moose.

Rofl NY Daily news is virtually a tabloid. How is this news? They've always done these classic reaches. This is no different than if Q00/Goldtop made an incoherent post out of speculation.
But don't let me stop the circle jerk. I think the Lakers and being on the West would be the best option for Monroe. Maybe even Phoenix if they shed some cash.

This may be BS, but it certainly wouldn't be a shock to see him end up in New York.
For those trashing the Carmelo/Moose pairing... I think you're wrong, at least offensively. Monroe will do well in an offense predicated on ball movement. He's no ball stopper. He's not a particularly efficient scorer for a big man, but he'd be a good fit in the triangle.

Would be shocked if Monroe agreed to a deal with the worst run team in the league. TBH, I'd lose respect for him- he said he wanted to go to a winner, NYK is far worse than the Pistons. That said, nothing is a "done deal" months before FA. I do expect NY to through the max at him but I also expect him to say thanks but no thanks.
I want him on the Spurs, if not Pistons TBH, so I can watch him locally and he can be mentored by Duncan. Parker/Green/Kawhi/Monroe/Duncan

Make it happen Pop! Think its a huge stretch (ie utter BS) that he will automatically sign with NYK in FA without so much as seeing what good teams like the Spurs make a push for him.
Most likely, NYK is starved for a story and Falk's trying to drive Monroe's cost up.

I would hate for Monroe to end up in New York - how many months before that media turned him into a dead frog in a high school biology class? I don't particularly want Monroe here if we have Reggie, Dre, and SVG - at some point the parts have to fit together and fit one vision. But I like Monroe and want him to have success where he goes.
In New York, he would be like here: when he's your best player on the court, your team loses.

CWebb, Vlade and Brad Miller all looked great playing from the high post in the Princeton Offense, which has a lot of similarities to the Triangle. Greg has some skills that should fit in nicely.
Of course all those guys had a face up game and could stretch to 18 feet or even the 3 pt line. The criticism is the same it's been for 4 years; he's one crucial skill away from being an impact player. Of course IF he could do that we'd have paid him and wouldn't be in the situation we're in now.
Best of luck to Knick fans or whoever gets him. Nothing against him as a person and still a chance he gets there. At worst he's a solid starter that can play either power position.

Monroe if you're reading this I hope this is true because I don't want you here. I love my Pistons and I don't want you in my life anymore. You weren't the worst boyfriend ever but I don't see a future with you past these last two games. I wish you the best

These post are funny. If he does leave for NYK good luck to him. I want him to go to the Pelicans if he does leave, he probably is leaving

MLIVE reports that Monroe wanted to sign a rookie extension 2 years ago, but instead Joe D never offered and went to sign Smith instead. Monroe said he'd much rather have signed that extension and been settled in with Detroit instead of becoming a free agent.
