Have to say it.. Agree/disagree? We all have been hammered a time or twenty.. His only hiccup was being drunk in public. Fans have been hard on him (myself included). Even if he signs elswhere, I'll still follow his career..

I really hope we can convince him to take a 10M a year deal that we can trade down the road

He's always been classy, although just more quiet than the usual guys. I don't think even the most staunch Monroe haters can disagree with this.

I wouldn't mind if he decided to stick around on a team friendly deal with the cap spiking up enormously. Had Jennings not gone down and he continued his 18/10 games, I think he would have definitely stayed.

If jennings didn't go down, I'm sure he would re-sign and we'd still be playing.

Let's go a step further and wallow more; had Smith been cut sooner, we'd be still playing.

:x Sigh

Monroe as a person is quality. Mornoe as a basketball player on a team led by Jackson and Dre is poor quality. New Orleans is going home sad, but man, he would be such a great add to that team if they can shred some contracts.

So he should take a "hometown discount" below market value so the Pistons can ship him off to a destination not of his choosing?

Am I missing something???

At 10M a year under the new cap moving forward, he'd be more valuable as a 3rd big backing up both PF, and C.

Lol. Such BS from Monroe.

He isn't a bad person by any means. It's his absolute right to sign wherever he wants, and I hope he finds a max contract offer.

But, say whatever you like, but every action he has taken points towards Greg leaving Detroit. Which is fine, perfectly fine. But, don't smack me in the mouth and tell me it was a kiss. He's gone. David Mayo- the Mlive beat writer, has stated multiple times that Monroe is about 90% certain to be gone. Mayo is in close contact with SVG, Monroe and Pistons staff all season long. I'll take his word over just about anyone else concerning the Pistons.

I'd be elated if they did a sign trade with NO for Ryan Anderson. Hope our med staff can keep him healthy, and we have one of the top stretch 4's in the NBA for a season or two.

I don't think anyone has ever said Monroe was anything but a class act. He's shown up to work every day played through all sorts of tough circumstances.

The only real knock I have against Monroe is that he came into the league with 1 glaring weakness - he couldn't knock down a 15 ft jumpshot to keep defenses honest. 5 years later, he really hasn't made any improvement. It's unrealistic to expect him to be a knockdown shooter, but he has enough offensive skill for that to be a servicable part of his game at this point. If he had done that, it would be a no-brainer to max him out and have him be part of the core moving forward. As is??? I certainly hate to lose a big with that much talent for nothing, but building around 2 non-shooting bigs is a challenge. You really need some complete players on the wings and backcourt to make that work.

At 10 Mill a yr he would be making below MLE by the end of his contract.

Frankly, Monroe's time here has been crummy for him in a lot of ways.

The team has been bad, there has been virtually no stability in terms of coaches, leadership, or even teammates. When he was coming close to the point where he'd be due an extension or new contract, we acquired a player who plays the same position as him and made him the highest paid player. Fan enthusiasm has been lukewarm in the best of times and downright frosty in the worst.

If he wants out I don't blame him one single bit. I think we're kidding ourselves if we're saying there is a good chance he'll return, and not just because of the circumstances I listed. His actions speak volumes too.

We've passed the point now where him returning can be discussed as a likely outcome, and for the most part its the organizations' fault. Not the CURRENT organization, but that's the reality.

He hasn't publicly complained about the team when a LOT of other players would have if given the same circumstances. Its been about as bad a situation as it gets.

i have been hard on him, , but that's mostly because we have Dre. I continue to repeat this, if we didn't have Dre, Moose would be our franchise center. We unfortunety do have Dre. We have been truly spoiled by monroe's class. Through this entire offseason, Season and up to now, he's been nothing but a professional and team player. I don't think we'll match the max offer that he'll sign, but i wish him the best.

THIS!

When you're not a rim protector you need to be able to drain a jumper from 15-20 at a good clip.

You don't expect it in Year 1 but by the end of the rookie deal I think it's fair to expect a significant improvement.

That improvement never came. Monroe might be a good guy but he's obviously not driven to excel cause if he was his jumper would be a lot better than it is.

No rim protection + no reliable jumper = no max contract IMO

SVG still considers Monroe to be a part of Pistons young core, which I find interesting. He sent an email to season ticket holders stating the young core as Drummond, Monroe, Jackson, KCP and Dinwiddie. I do think SVG is gonna push hard to retain Monroe and Greg will consider staying here. I just don't see why SVG would mention Monroe in an email for next season if he didn't want him back and didn't think there was a realistic shot that Monroe would come back. I especially found it interesting because Jennings was ommitted from the Pistons young core despite being the same age as Jackson-25.

Monroe is a class act and the exact type of player you want in your lockerroom.
