Why wouldnt LaMarcus Aldridge come to Detroit?

Post#1 » by sfballa13 » Tue Jun 2, 2015 3:09 am

Many people say that LaMarcus Aldridge should and will go to the Spurs but after next year they will lose Duncan / Parker with no real guarantee of who will replace them. Leonard / Aldridge is not enough to get it done in the West.

Easier conference, younger team with more potential, same money >>> One year window to win the title with the Spurs in the tough West

LaMarcus Aldridge can come to Detroit to play next to Andre Drummond and feast on the East's weak power forwards.

We could even make a big trade to convince him to sign:

To Nets: Jennings, Shawne Williams, Martin, Butler, Felton --- Nets save 4.5M in 2015-2016

To Dallas: Meeks ---- Dallas turns Raymond Felton into Jodie Meeks

To Detroit: Joe Johnson --- Pistons make their team an instant contender in the East and possible landing spot for a big PF.

This trade still leaves us with all our cap space to make a run at Aldridge. Give him the max and then fill out our bench with free agents like Wes Johnson, Danny Green.

Jackson/KCP are a young and promising tandem, Aldridge and Drummond would be amazing, and Joe Johnson expires, leaving us with tons of cap space in the big summer of 2016. On top of that we still have the #8 pick.

Reggie Jackson / Dinwiddie
KCP / Green
Joe Johnson / Wes Johnson
Aldridge / Tolliver
Drummond / ------------

I really do love this forum, where threads like this can happen. Lebron will be available soon. If you're gonna aim unrealistically high may as well take it all the way.

Because he's not that young. I doubt he's looking to get into a rebuilding situation, he's got a chance at a pay day and at least one ring. Who wouldn't take that?

Do we have a prime Paul Pierce? Did we just trade for Ray Allen? Dude is looking to win and we're a young rebuilding team. The fit isn't really there for either side.

May as well try and see if we can recruit Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars in free agency while we're at it.

Seriously though...LMA's got better options, he's not coming here.

LMA is looking to go home to Texas, not head to Detroit.

Imagine him on the Rockets though.

I don't think the Rockets have cap space or anything to give up in a S&T though.

Dallas and Spurs are going to be on his short list.

Spurs are a perennial playoff team if not a contender. And both those Texas teams have proven coaches and a decent front office. LMA ain't coming here.

LMA is a reportedly a moody dude. He gets up in his feelings. He holds a grudge. He was offended that the Blazers saw him as a project as opposed to an immediate contributer when they drafted him (dude was a skinny kid playing PF behind Zach Randolph). When Brandon Roy was ripping the league to shreds, LMA felt like he should have gotten some of that shine and felt a bit slighted. When Oden "the fragile one" came to town...as the dominant big projected to elevate the franchise, again LMA was less than thrilled. (you can google articles on these events)

Even now, we've seen LMA distance himself from his team during their playoff disappearance. I'm not sure this is a dude I want with a rebuilding Pistons team and I'm sure he wouldn't want to be with the Stones. LMA has an opportunity to go to the Spurs or Dallas. He could go home, get paid, and play in front of his family with winning franchises. The interesting thing would be to see how he reacts playing under Pop and Carisle. Neither of those guys are a soft touch.

I believe he'll end up in San Antonio.

If youre interesred in Blazer players, how about Niclas Batum. Hes young enough to grow with the Pistons, but hes been a starter and significant contributor on a play-off team for awhile now.

I mean, sure, but we don't have any assets to give.

I could see a xouple of options. Assumimg LMA does leave, it could be a sign and trade for Monroe.

Or, Batum/#23 for #8 /filler.

I was going to say S&T for Monroe, but he's free to sign anywhere so you guys would need to lure him.

Not too keen on giving up pick #8, especially without knowing who is on the board as there's a chance Winslow could fall there.

The blazers aren't going to trade batum, but even if they wanted to, they would wait and see what happens with LMA. They won't start a rebuild when they still have a chance of keeping the team together.

As for LMA coming here - that would be fantastic. It's not going to happen, but it would be fantastic. His game compliments Dre in every way you could hope for.

LMA wants to win...him coming here elevates us into the upper class of the East we'd need to make other moves to really draw him to us.

Draft Johnson
Sign Danny Green
Sign LMA
Retain RJ

Dre/LMA/Anthony
LMA/Tolliver
Green/Johnson
KCP/Meeks
RJ/BJ/Dinwiddie

It's fun on paper. Highly unlikely

Honestly the sooner we all accept that Detroit really is never going to be a premier free agent destination the better.

Unless we draft the next Lebron we aren't likely to attract any free agents at this level. There will always be more appealing options.

Heck, even Lebron couldn't entice guys to go to Cleveland the first time around....
