If Boston had a starting caliber SF then this discussion would have some merit, but they don't so theres no point in discussing it. The 8th pick is more valuable than a package of mid and late first

We need a center 41 Kelly Olynyk C 24 7-0 238

You can even go with him and the 16th i would be happy with that.

I believe I read Detroit liked James Young from last years draft - and he's a 2-3. Maybe have Boston take Meeks off our hands as well in any deal.

#8 and Meeks for James Young, #16 and #28

I like this deal. I liked James Young as a prospect prior to the draft. His shooting ability would fit nicely with this team. (And the guy played for Rochester Hills HS) :D

Edit: Even better if Portis is still on board at #16.

No thanks to Young, I just don't see it with the guy.

Boston and DET are terrible trade partners now that we have traded for Ersan.

the only guy on the Celtics that id want is Jae Crowder, but I dont think Crowder and a couple of mid to late first rounders would be very good value, considering the guys likely to be available at #8. especially with Crowders contract being up after this year. the only trade back idea that really interests me is the Batum + #23 deal ive seen floated around a couple of times.

Exactly. Especially a late first in this draft. There's a huge talent gap after the early twenties.

Olynyk (who isn't a center since he can't defend at that position) or Sullinger would have made sense before the Pistons traded for Ilyasova but not now. Neither is a great player/prospect but Detroit had a big need at the four. Van Gundy seems to be looking at Ersan as a starter and we know he likes Tolliver. Miller will probably see some minutes there too. If the Pistons draft a power forward I could see Tolliver or Miller being waived to make room but otherwise they're set.

There's a fascination with James Young that doesn't make sense. I don't think most realize just how bad of a defender he is and how far he has to go to be playable. His shot is nice but not particularly consistent and that's the only thing he's shown. Young was last year's version of Devin Booker except a tier or two worse. The best asset Boston has to deal with Detroit is Brooklyn's pick next year and even that might end up being in the middle of the first round in what is projected to be a weak draft. No thanks.

The only way Boston becomes a trade partner for #8 is if they start shelling out some of the first rounders they've stockpiled. But #28 is basically a second round pick and isn't worth that much. I'd also go #16 and Smart for Jennings and #8.

There's undoubtedly a talent gap between the lottery and the next tier of prospects. If SVG is serious about building through the draft he shouldn't miss this opportunity to bring in one of Winslow/Hezonja/Stanley.

I wouldn't. Smart was very underwhelming as a rookie and plays a position we already have filled with a far better player.

I really don't think Boston would trade Smart alone for the 8th pick. Which would be fine by me since Detroit doesn't need him.

Smart was one of the best defensive players in the east this season i believe. and he's a combo guard. Yes RJ is a better player but older.......just saying smarts a hell of asset

Agree. And Smart is still on a rookie contract.

Smart? Why?

Terrible offensively and since I dont view him as some sort of can't miss core piece I'll say it's not worth it.

#8 will get us something we need - Jennings expiring is something we can dangle all season long or just enjoy it ourselves

Makes jennings even more expendable, we get immediately better at defense on the perimeter, Dinwiddie still unproven. At worst he's asset we can move again for another core piece. We can get oubre at 16. down for that at the price of Smart

Doesn't make Jennings more expendable - he's part of the trade dude!

We'd have KCP, Meeks, RJ, Smart & Dinwiddie at guard - none of them should be playing SF

96 minutes between 5 dudes? Even assuming Meeks only gets 18 minutes....78 for 4 players.

RJ gets 30...48 minutes between 3 young guys that you're trying to develop simultaneously?

There's a difference between acquiring an asset and just accumulating talent for the sake of it.

It's not 2K - you know that. You're only doing this trade IMO if you're checking out on 1 of Dinwiddie, KCP or Meeks.

IF you're good with Dinwiddie, RJ, KCP & Meeks as the guard rotation why trade down & ditch Jennings (poor form giving his play last season) to pick up Smart?

And here's the kicker: does Smart even fit here? I say no
