Just curious as to who everyone prefers as i am not sure who i would take in this situation which we may face if Jennings is able to come back at %100

Jackson pretty easily at this point. The worries about players coming back from an Achilles injuries aren't overstated. I actually think this board generally underestimates the severity of the situation. If the Pistons want Jennings back in 2016 as a short-term backup I would bet they could re-sign him to a relatively cheap deal after his probable struggles getting back on the court this season.

Interesting and your right he faces a tough road to get back not just physically but mentally. More a hypothetical from my end if Jennings is %100 who would you take

If Jennings is 100% then I might lean toward him more since there were games where he couldn't miss and won us some. But otherwise, Jackson plays more team ball so I'll go with him for the long-term.

But like others mentioned, modern med tech isn't far enough that players with Achilles injuries come back 100% easily. In fact, I believe most are noticeably affected after the fact.

If both were 100% that would be an interesting question. I generally think Jennings is closer to the player he was the majority of his career as opposed to the one he was in those 16 games post-Smith so Jackson would still be my pick. With Reggie I feel like there's more of an unknown quantity/upside to see what he can do as the true starter for a team. His play with Drummond is also really nice and he seemed to connect much better with him in the short time he's been with the team as opposed to how Jennings did in a year and a half. That's important if Van Gundy plans to build with/around Andre going forward like it he probably wants to.

Jackson for sure, He's actually good at getting to the rim and finishing. Jennings is a player who can get hot but 90% of the time he sucks and just takes bad shots. Jennings is probably a more flashy passer but I think Reggie is better at creating for his teammates and finding them. I remember Jennings passing up on wide open layups because he's such a bad finisher.

Jackson. I prefer players who don't seem to end up pretty regularly on TMZ.

Does Jennings' inability to use his right hand count as being unhealthy??

I think a Jennings who could use both hands would be pretty wicked.

Check out the alley oop stats. Jackson connected more alley oops with Dre in like a third of the time it took Jennings to connect them. Jackson has a much better chemistry with Dre. He can shoot the open 3. He won't shoot lights out like how Jennings can shoot sometimes. But he's consistent with his scoring and much more versatile. He can FINISH. He's bigger and has a much more defensive potential. I think Jennings can have a Lou Williams type of role on the team. Question is can he accept that? I think he'd do great off the bench, specially that he got injured and can slowly come back during the season.

While I get that it was the first glimmer of hope us Piston fans had seen in a LONG time, I feel that some people really look back upon the post-cutting-Josh-Smith run Jennings went on with rose-colored glasses and that skews their opinions.

That said, there's only ONE opinion on this matter that counts, and that's SVG's. And he made this abundantly clear (i.e., "This is NOT a try out."). Reggie Jackson is the PG of this team.

1.) Jennings was signed by Dumars, ie he's not SVG's guy.
2.) Jennings contract is set to expire and he's returning from a MAJOR INJURY
3.) SVG traded assets that he valued for RJ, and it wasn't just for the last 27 games of the season
4.) when you look at ultimate upside, RJ brings a lot more to the table

Jennings.. Reggie Jackson could be one of the worst faces for a team (literally and skillset-wise) ever... He's best suited for a non-high expectation, secondary, great role player, not a leader, glue player role.

RJ without doubt.

If you eliminate last season completely:

Jennings is a no D playing, chucking knucklehead

RJ is a 6th Man of the Year contender and damn good plug and play starter

The major flaw in the question's logic is the assumption that a "healthy Jennings" will be the same Brandon Jennings we saw pre-injury. We don't have that information right now- and may not for another year, as it will take him time to regain whatever form he is capable of.

I'll take Reggie Jackson. Simply due to him being healthy.

I'm not a huge fan of RJ, but he this isn't even debatable at this moment IMHO. Jennings has almost no value right now.

Apologies i could of worded the question so much better. What i was trying to get the opinion of was would you rather Jennings or Jackson Injurys aside so Jennings Pre Injury. A Hypothetical if Jennings did come back the same Jennings which as you say who knows at this point.

To what end does debating a pre-injury Jennings have merit? Jennings, for that brief period, was playing like a top 5 PG. Was he turning a corner, or just on a hot streak? There's years of evidence to support that it was just a hot streak, but then again, Stan's system seems to elevate the output of his point guards. The sad truth is that we'll never know.
