Me too, in fact this guy wasn't even on my radar. Sounds like a 3 and D guy, we shall see.

Christmas was gone, Woods was too dumb and soft for Stan probably.

Hilliard is an excellent shooter, good passer. Defense should be good too, Villanova was a great defense team and his steal rate is very high, even better than Stanley Johnson's.

Really good pick. Great size for a SG with a ton of length, 6'9" wingspan. He's not an uber athlete but he's a perfect role player which, let's be honest, is what we were drafting for with that pick.

He can knock down the three...check
He can defend at a high level...check
He possesses a high basketball IQ...check
He shows great versatility...check
He plays with consistently high intensity...check

Not bad. Great form on his shot, quick release. Crafty around the rim and decent body control.

I've only seen a bit of footage from him thus far, but he reminds me of Arron Afflalo.

Yeah, lacks athleticism. Not a quick/fast guy, not great lateral movement. He won't be a lock-down defender but if his steal rate is any indication, he's a smart enough player to not get completely torched on defense. Doesn't have great hops and will struggle to get to the rim and finish too. Should be a capable role player though.

A buddy of mind, who follows the Big East even closer than I do, told me he's "a solid role player."

So let's be honest — it's pick #38. Whomever we picked wasn't gonna move the needle one way or another, whether they be a backup-backup SG or a backup-backup C. Good 3&D guy who, at ABSOLUTE best, could replace Meeks as KCP's backup at a much lower price in a couple of years? Sure, why the hell not?

In any case, I'm not gonna shed any tears 'cuz we took a gamble on him as opposed to that French center whose name I can't even spell.

Looked up their stats and in fact they are pretty similar:

Afflalo per 40 Junior year of college: 21/3/2 with 0.7 steals, 59 TS% and 38% from three
Hilliard per 40 Senior year of college: 20/3/3 with 2.5 steals, 58 TS% and 39% from three

Not saying he'll be as good as Afflalo because I don't think he's got much upside, but it's interesting. Wouldn't shock me if he maxes out at where Afflalo was his 1st year in Denver.

Wanted a backup C, but it's really not key to fill that role in the draft.

At 38, this is fine.

Okay, now I gotta be completely honest and (potentially, I hope!) eat some crow — I wanted Robert Upshaw, Christian Wood, Cliff Alexander, or that French Kid whose name I can't remember or spell (just went to Google — Mohammadou Jaiteh) with pick #38. And NONE of them got drafted. So as humbling as this is, I guess I must admit that SVG & Gang actually know what they're doing better than I do. If we get ONE of those guys on our Summer League team, that's a huge win in my opinion; if we get a couple of them in for free looks, it's MASSIVE.

It's been a tough night to say this, but in SVG I trust; let's trust him to keep working from here!

SVG made the right pick at that spot. I was high on Hilliard. Dude plays good defense, and is a 3&D guy. Perfect player for SVG.
