Hard to say. I think we have more players that fit the team this time

I say yes, one more year for the players to get used to SVG system, one full off-season with Reggie, getting players that fit his system in Free Agency, Dre should take the next step, hopefully KCP goes to 15-17ppg regularly, maybe more, my favorite Stanley Johnson.

Our defense is automatically better sans Monroe, who was a horrific pick and roll defender. When a largest portion of all nba offenses is the pick and roll, it's really important to have mobile bigmen.
Also, the offense should be fantastic. I'm just excited to see drummond fully embrace his position as full time beast. He has got to improve his free throw shooting. Shaq numbers would be an improvement, and allow him to stay on the floor. This sub 40% crap, has to end.

Notable Additions: Stanley, Hilliard, Ilyasova, Baynes, Morris, Bullock (Granger a question mark right now)
Notable losses: Monroe
Yeah, I would say we got better. Actually to be honest the biggest addition of all might be a full season without Josh Smith.

I don't it's even questionable that the talent has been upgraded, whether he players fit together and can play together remains to be seen, but I love the shooters we've added, and I can't wait to see what a full season of Reggie looks like, and if Jennings can come back healthy. I just wish we had more veteran leadership, it's the one reason I can see us keeping Granger (thought I doubt we will) or bring back Anthony. It'd be nice to have someone with a winning pedigree playing a significant roll. But I'm loving the talent and assets acquired this offseason.

Even if talent was equal (which it's not, it's better), the players fit the system much better and will provide better results.
Better talent + better fit = excited!!

i really like this roster, much better than last years. Especially if Jennings can play and buys into the 6th man role.
Compared to the starting lineup of Jackson, kcp, Butler, Tolliver, Drummond...i think we upgraded both starting forward spots significantly to llyasova and Morris.
Compare the bench we had then of Dinwiddie, Meeks, Tayshaun, Shawne Williams, Anthony...
...to Jennings, Meeks, Johnson, Tolliver, Baynes...and i think that is going to be a major upgrade. We almost have 2 starting fives now in that Stan can run his system with both units, using the Jennings and Baynes pick and roll surrounded by shooters instead when that unit comes in. That has potential to be a great bench with quality depth at every position.

That really can't be stated enough...lol
We started what 5-21 last season with Jsmoove...geez take out that horrid start and we may have even made the playoffs lol..
We upgraded talent that's for sure..
Our wing position now has
DEPTH...What did we all bitch about the most sans Smith last season...Wing talent..
Time will tell, but I have a lot of faith in SVG the coach.

i really question what the bucks are doing because much of their success was having all those long athletic defensive bigs that could defend the paint and pick and roll. To trade that for a frontcourt of Monroe and Jabari, i dont see how they maintain that same defense. i know they needed to get better on offense but i dont think Monroe and Jabari are going to be that great offensively to make up for the issues they pose on defense.
i thought they should have kept with the athletic defensive model up front and upgraded their perimeter talent to get more offense that way instead. Jabari already gives you additional scoring up front. An athletic defensive center seems like the better compliment to me.

Didn't we also have a ten game losing streak after getting Reggie? And still finished with .500 record after getting rid of smith. This team has got really good potential imo.

Yea we did. It was that awkward getting to know everyone stretch with him and Tayshaun. I think SVG did a rather remarkable job all things considered last season. Lesser coaches would have caved prior to trading Smith, let alone when Jennings went down.

Coaching continuity can't be overstated either. This is the first time Dre has had a returning coach in his career - and given his one-and-done at UCONN he's never had a returning coach in five years. KCP gets a returning coach for the first time as well. It's very important for their development. All our returning dudes will start off way ahead of where we were at the start of the season last year - camp and pre-season was all about learning the verbiage and the system, hell even at the start of the season the team was still trying to figure things out.
I think we're better BUT other teams with more talent got healthier.
This team will go as far ad Dre (and Jackson-to-Dre combo) can take us. Ceiling this year is realistically 6-7 seed with the floor being really low - maybe only better than Philly in the East.

Yeah the team has a good balance... have to admit I haven't paid attention to Morris's defense... but can't be worse than Butler.. Tay's defense was no longer at a high level.
However several teams also improved with the draft & F.A's... so our improvement really comes down to a team by team comparison in the East.

Monroe wasn't a great fit but he was a more talented and productive player than anyone we got. I'm a little concerned about Morris' potential to be an issue. How he'll react to playing without his brother may be an issue as well.
Those things are probably more than offset by better fit, coaching continuity, Reggie being with the team all season, and being Smith-free.
