gonna say traded during the season, but I hope he's willing to stay and play a super 6th man kind of role. With Stan finding guys who buy into that "wolfpack" mentality like SJ and RJ, maybe he relishes in that role enough to stick around.

I voted for traded during the season - he needs to prove his health first for us to get a fair return, and it's in his best interest to do it here while there is no pressure for big minutes as Reggie is the PGOTF. It really comes down to his attitude and if he embraces the bench/6th man role - if he's legitimately okay with it and we're competing for a play-off spot, I could see Stan keeping him here and letting him hit free agency in the off-season with the idea that he searches for a starting gig, but we'd be open to bringing him back in the 6th man role. Of course all of this depends on what exactly Brandon is once he returns - does he still have his speed? Can he still be effective if he's lost half a step?

Id love to see him stay and play good maybe become 6th man of the year but I would guess if he does start playing well that he ends up getting traded.

Big variables - his attitude, and his body's recovery timetable. And Dinwiddie's progress.

If he isn't physically 100% to start the season, it actually makes things easier. Jennings will have to defer to RJ and work his way into the backup role. And since he is in a contract year, even though he wants to score 20ppg, he also needs to not be a dick, since that would hurt his value as well. So he might just make it through the season with us.

The other part of this equation is Dinwiddie. If he plays well enough that Stan thinks he can fill the backup PG role, then it is easier to trade Jennings. But if Dinwiddie doesn't play well enough, we can't afford to trade Jennings away.

Totally hoping Jennings embraces the 6th man role and kills it on the 2nd team.

If he performs this year, I just don't see how we can afford to sign him to a new deal next year. If he doesn't, we'll probably move on anyway.

If there is value to be had on the trade market once he gets back on the court, we should take it.

Unless he gets dealt soon, I think we hold on to him. A midseason trade only seems realistic if we are firmly out of the playoff picture as it leaves us with Dinwiddie/unsigned vet FA/needing to trade for a backup option. There doesn't seem to be a big market for him, the Mavs are looking for a PG but don't have the pieces for a deal, the Knicks could take him but don't have much to give, the Kings might have been an option but signed Rondo, we might need an injury situation to someone else to return value making it worth parting with him.

I think he'll come back a step slower than he was. His game won't be the same as it was but he'll notice the second string will be easier to play against. I think he'll still come back and play well because of the second string and will eventually either get traded or extended depending on his attitude. I think Stan will keep Jennings like how he kept Monroe and if Jennings sees a future on this team, he'll extend. If he still thinks he can start on an NBA team, he'll leave but I doubt that he can be a starter anymore which is why I think he'll be extended.

I would hope he sticks to his bench role and isn't an issue since he;s looking for a new deal next season. He would be great off the bench and alongside RJ in small ball line ups.
I think he'll be traded during the season though.

I have no frickin' idea... this is the biggest mystery on the team. So far, he's been a perfect teammate, though. Young man did a LOT of growing up last year.

Trading Jennings is tricky. If he's not happy with coming off of the bench, then it's likely some other team won't trade for him to play that role. New York, Philadelphia, and Dallas could use a point guard but the Knicks drafted Grant, the Mavericks are going after Lin, and the 76ers have Wroten who they might just commit to even tough he's coming off of an ACL injury.

Of course this is all assuming Jennings comes back somewhat healthy and effective at some point. As I've said before I'm not too optimistic about that happening anytime before February if at all. I think it's more likely than not that Detroit keeps Jennings this season. After that who knows. If Dinwiddie looks decent they will probably let him walk though. That's my vote for now.

while I wouldn't be surprised if they did, I don't think they'll trade Jennings. his value is low right now because he is coming off a serious injury. trading him near the deadline might make more sense since he could show that he is back on track, but I still question how much a team would offer for a half-season rental, especially one they would have to pay $8 million for.

It's usually tough to predict what teams value certain players at and what they will be willing to give up for them but think in a trade scenario Jennings will most likely have more value to us this year as a high-level backup than he would have in the trade market.

plus I think the dynamic of potentially having two PG's that can handle the ball and run the pick and roll on the floor at the same time gives SVG some more options.


I voted for the third option where we keep him all year and let him walk at the end of the year.

I also voted that we keep him for the rest of the year then he'll likely walk. I just don't see him getting traded before he's stepped onto the court and reestablished some value. So lets say he comes back mostly healthy and does well as our 6th man, I can't see Stan trading him, especially if we're in the playoff hunt, like I expect us to be. Then after the season, someone will offer him more than what we're willing to pay to retain him. On the other hand if he can't quite make it back to the point that he's effective, then who is going to want to trade for him? We'll ride out the rest of the season, then not resign him. Either way, I see this as his last year in Detroit, and its a shame too, because if not for that injury we would probably be clamoring for him to get extended this offseason.

I voted 'traded midseason,' I hope he's a team player and accepts the 6th man role but if something comes up like a wing on a longer cheap contract, I could see him traded. I could see them playing together as well and Jennings being and team leader.

I definitely think we'll keep him for the start of the season. No point in trading him if you can't get something decent in return, and that won't happen until he proves he's healthy. I'd love to see him accept a role as a super 6th man and believe he can thrive in it.

Now if come trade deadline, a trade is available that will make us better long term I don't think SVG will hesitate to make it. Van Gundy has shown he prefers trades to big FA signings, and is building towards the future.

I doubt we resign him after the big contract we just gave Jackson, so if SVG can get something of value, I think he will. If not, ride it out and hopefully make a nice run with him into the playoffs.

I guess it is possible to have a trade before the season, but it would have to be a salary dump situation and probably involve 3 teams. If Golden St wants to dump David Lee or the Nets want to dump JJ or DWill. If there is a third team involved with cap space, then Jennings could be a "bridge salary" going back to Golden State, and we could take a lesser player/salary from Philly. So it's possible, but I expect him to start the year with us.

Brandon is saying all the right things, but I don't know - it all seems so passive aggressive to me, like how last season he went on about if DJ Augustin is playing better he should be starting. Maybe he is being sincere as hell, who knows.
