The Final 18 players to trade or cut

Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Thu Jul 9, 2015 2:12 am

The Pistons roster now stands at 18 players:

PG: Reggie Jackson, Brandon Jennings, Spencer Dinwiddie

SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jodie Meeks, Darrun Hilliard, Cartier Martin

SF: Marcus Morris, Stanley Johnson, Reggie Bullock, Danny Granger ,Adonis Thomas (all new SF players from last year)

PF: Ersan Ilyasova, Anthony Tolliver, Quincy MIller (All new from start of last season)

C: Andre Drummond, Aron Baynes, Joel Anthony

That means three players have to go, and they are likely to be veteran Danny Granger and Cartier Martin,Reggie Bullock.
Defence Wins Championships,we need to return to the Bad Boy era.

Martin and Granger, IMO

Or we pull off a 2-for-0 (where we get a future 2nd rounder) or 3-for-1 trade with some team needing to fill out their 15-man roster.

Yeah I can think of no reason to keep Martin. He provides absolutely nothing, other than his contract is guaranteed and Miller's isn't. It comes down to how much the coaching staff believes or wants to invest in Miller. Can't imagine Granger is long for this team.

you'd have to think Granger is on the way out. I think that works for both parties involved.
martin or Miller is really a toss up. miller's deal isn't guaranteed, but Martin's is, so it's up to VG if he wants to spend money or not. Neither guy will see the floor much, so it's not a huge deal.
there seemed to be a lot of hype around millers improvement this offseason, but he had some bad luck with the injury, so we don't know if it's real or not.
Since it's not my money, I'd get rid of granger and Martin. Miller has upside, martin is what he is.

Yeah I 100% agree with you. I wish I had that kind of change just to throw around.

Martin and Granger have no business being on our final roster

Keep Quincy for the work he has put in, sign him to a small minimum deal

Hilluard to the d-league or europe

Imagine being able to say "hey J.Smoove, you suck balls. You're out" and then just eat millions of dollars worth of contract?... must be nice.

I'm really pulling for Miller. Illyasova and Tolliver are 28 and 29, if we could stash him and develop him in Grand Rapids for a year or two, I would like that. I really want to see the NBDL work out.

SVG has raved about his hard work.

Miller actually has significant potential compared to a guy like Martin, who has no value to us whatsoever. It will be a foolish move if SVG releases Miller instead of a guy like Granger or Martin.

I expect granger to be cut - he's shown absolutely no ability to be healthy the last few years and the amount of time he's missed has really sapped his skill.

As far as Martin vs. miller, I believe the Pistons will be over the salary cap next year so the slightly-less-than $1 million they'll save off the cap by cutting Miller won't have any effect on our flexibility in terms of trades or exceptions.

At the end of the day of the Pistons feel miller doesn't bring anything to the table Martin doesn't they could save a million, but I think they'll opt to keeping miller and eating the $1.3 million they owe Martin this year.

I wouldn't totally shocked to see Adonis Thomas get a shot after both Martin AND Miller are released.

A 1 for 0 zero trade shipping Martin out would be nice. Beyond that, Miller vs. Granger... Potential vs. Lockerroom/Leadership. Personally, I'd rather have Granger around to mentor Stanley Johnson, but it's the end of the bench...I'm not torn either way.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

nobody would like to take Cartier Martin, even for a glass of water.

There will be teams looking to just add bodies to fill their 15-man roster. Someone "might" give us a 2nd for Martin.

Odds go up if we offer another player, like Granger....

i think this should be are 15 man roster

pg: jackson, jennings, dinwiddie
sg: kcp, meeks, adonis thomas,
sf: morris, s.johnson, bullock
pf: illaysova, tolliver, miller
c: drummond, baynes, anthony

granger/martin gets cut, hilliard gets send to d-league, we keep miller for another year and sign adonis thomas.

I believe if we send Hillard to the D League he counts as a roster spot being used...so:

RJ/BJ/Dinwiddie
KCP/Meeks/Hillard
Morris/Stanimal/Bullock
Illyasova/Tolliver/Miller
Drummond/Baynes/Anthony

Leadership comes from Illyasova on the floor...

Dre, RJ & KCP lead off the floor for the young crew we have...their work over the off-season will determine next season
